US soldier 'attacks own base'
A US soldier has been arrested after a grenade attack at a rear US base camp in northern Kuwait which killed another serviceman and wounded 12 others.
A military spokesman said two grenades had been rolled into a command tent in Camp Pennsylvania, the base of the 101st US Airborne Division.

"Iraq" knocked female country music group "Dixie Chicks" out of the top spot on Yahoo's Buzz Index of popular search terms among U.S. Internet users.

Critics Blast Cuban Crackdown
Cuba's move to arrest more than 70 dissidents this week was timed to coincide with the focus of worldwide media attention on the Iraq conflict, U.S. government and media watchdog groups charged Friday.
The wave of arrests throughout the country started on March 18, when police rounded up the Communist regime's most vocal critics at their homes and seized computer equipment and printed literature.

Iraqi Commander Surrenders to Marines, U.S. Military Says
CAMP DOHA, KUWAIT, MARCH 21 - The commander of Iraq's 51st division and his top deputy surrendered to United States Marine forces today, according to American military officials.
It was the first time that the commander of an Iraqi division has surrendered to allied forces. The 51st is a Regular Army unit that was deployed in southern Iraq directly in the path of the allied invasion.

Der Stadtkern Bagdads wurde von zahlreichen gewaltigen Explosionen erschüttert. Mehr als 20 Marschflugkörper schlugen ein. Der Regierungskomplex stand nach dem Angriff in Flammen. Krankenwagen rasten mit heulenden Sirenen durch die Straßen. Allein in Saddam Husseins Hauptpalast in Bagdad schlugen nach Informationen der Nachrichtenagentur Reuters ein Dutzend Raketen ein. Später folgte offenbar ein zweite Welle von Luftangriffen.

U.S.: Saddam was wounded in initial air strike
Iraqi leader was seen being taken from his home on stretcher wearing oxygen mask. The Pentagon on Friday evening announced that Iraqi President Saddam Hussein was wounded in the American air attack two days earlier. The Iraqi leader was the target of the air strike at the start of the war, which was carried out after intelligence information was received on his location.
Iraq denied that Saddam Hussein was injured.

Satellite photos show smoke plumes from the 30 oil well fires near Basra
British military officials scaled back their estimate of the number of oil wells burning in southern Iraq on Friday, saying that only seven wells had been set ablaze — not the 30 reported earlier — and that all key components of the southern oil fields were safe.

In the light of the outbreak of war in Iraq in the last 12 hours, our recommendations for the scheduling and content of videos and programmes are as follows:
- Video recommendations
Obviously, there will be heightened public sensitivity to representations of war, soldiers, bombing, destruction of buildings and public unrest at home. The ITC Programme Code requires us not to broadcast material which offends against good taste or is offensive to public feeling. We therefore recommend that videos featuring the following are not shown at the moment:
war soldiers war planes bombs missiles riots and social unrest executions other obviously sensitive material

WARPLANES ATTACK
British and American warplanes are attacking artillery units in southern Iraq, the Pentagon has said.
Officials told Sky News that ten artillery pieces have been destroyed.
They said the artillery units may have chemical or biological weapons which could be used on US and UK troops on the border with Kuwait, said Sky News correspondent Keith Graves in Washington.
He said: "The Pentagon said warplanes have been and are now in action over southern Iraq."
