New, Safer Land Mine Detector Unveiled

A new land mine detector has been devised that uses the physics of light to reveal where mines have been recently buried.

The new detector could be used to detect land mines from a safe distance 1,000-feet above ground and dramatically speed up the current method of specially trained soldiers arduously checking the ground with hand-held, ground-penetrating radar.

Lethal Virus from 1918 Genetically Reconstructed

The 1918 Spanish Flu was highly infectious and – in comparison to contemporary flu viruses – killed a very high percentage of those infected, including many younger people. The Spanish Flu alone caused the medium life expectancy in the US in 1918 to drop by 10 years. Hence, flu viruses are perceived today as a serious biological warfare threat. Just two weeks ago, a 15 million dollar research grant was awarded in the US to develop protective measures especially against a bioterrorist attack with flu viruses.

Happy Birthday, my leader Saddam Hussein

On the eve of Saddam Hussein's 66th birthday, US soldiers armed with spray cans blackened out a freshly painted sign declaring: "Happy Birthday, my leader Saddam Hussein".

Saddam's iron rule is over, his palaces have been looted and he may even be dead, but some people are determined to celebrate his birthday on Monday in and around his home town of Tikrit, 175km north of Baghdad.

"If we don't celebrate in the streets, we will celebrate in our homes," said 40-year-old Saadi Mohammed, one of a group Iraqis in a Tikrit street who all believe Saddam was alive.

Did Russians Use Blog To Aid Iraq

The U.S. and British military won't have the Russian secret services to contend with in Iraq anymore, at least not on the Net. Early last week, the Russian military analysis Web site, Iraqwar.ru, discontinued its daily "Russian military intel update."

The three-week-old, daily feature - was it real-world intelligence useful to the Iraqis or merely the product of a fertile imagination? - claimed to be based on leaks from senior Russian intelligence officials.

Iraq-Russia spy link uncovered SECRET FILES: Documents reveal Iraqi agents trained in Moscow

PROOF THAT RUSSIA TRAINED IRAQI SPIES!!!! A graduation certificate (what real spy agency gives those out?) given by Russia to Iraqi spies, luckily printed in English, to make sure the suckers in the US know what it is supposed to be. A Moscow-based organization was training Iraqi intelligence agents as recently as last September -- at the same time Russia was resisting the Bush administration's push for a tough stand against Saddam Hussein's regime, Iraqi documents discovered by The Chronicle show.
