Statement from DoD

"Assertions apparently being made in the latest New Yorker article on Abu Ghraib and the abuse of Iraqi detainees are outlandish, conspiratorial, and filled with error and anonymous conjecture.

"The abuse evidenced in the videos and photos, and any similar abuse that may come to light in any of the ongoing half dozen investigations into this matter, has no basis in any sanctioned program, training manual, instruction, or order in the Department of Defense.

Mirror editor sacked over hoax

Morgan refuses to apologise after Iraqi abuse pictures are shown to be fakes Piers Morgan was last night sacked as editor of the Daily Mirror as the newspaper apologised "unreservedly" for publishing photographs of Iraqi prisoner abuse that were faked.

Morgan's nine-year reign came to an end after the Queen's Lancashire Regiment proved that pictures of its soldiers allegedly torturing Iraqi captives were staged and launched a strong campaign denouncing the Mirror's handling of the images.

Beheading Web Site Shut Down

Malaysian company Acme Commerce shut down the site which showed a video of Nick Berg being beheaded in Iraq. The site al-ansar.biz had rented space on the company's web server. Now the site is not available.

The company says one main reason for the shutdown is "a sudden surge of massive traffic that is taking up too much bandwidth and causing inconvenience to our other clients". The company does not allow "grisly" and "potentially offensive" content.

Iraq prisoner abuse photos 'tame', Qld contractor says

"What you're seeing in the photographs now really is tame," he said.

"You think about it, these pictures [are ones] that they've published on the net to send to their friends, the real stuff that's going on there is far, far beyond this."

He says he has seen far worse while working in Saddam Hussein's home town of Tikrit.

Nick Berg decapitation video declared "a fraud" by medical doctor
Fake Video?

Doctor Raul Castro Guevara is saying that there is no way that the individual in the video was alive and his heart pumping while his neck was being cut. The doctor adds that in these cases, while the heart is pumping, cutting a person's artery in the neck, would cause copious amounts of blood to spurt all over the immediate environment. He says that in his opinion the video is a fraud.

Pictures taken by soldiers on the frontline in Iraq

Jim and I are amazed at the variety of pictures we see on Yafro, but the most amazing by far are the pictures taken by soldiers on the Frontline in Iraq. We are happy that Yafro enables them to give us all a glimpse into their lives that we rarely get from the Media. Straight from the source, it doesn't get any cooler than that!
