'World's largest bear' shot in Alaska
A US airman is believed to have killed the world's largest bear. Ted Heuvelmans says he shot the 1,800lb Alaskan Brown bear from 35 yards away, in self defence.The bear, which was 14ft tall, tried to attack him during a hunting trip on Hitchenbrook Island, near the Elmendorf Air Force Base in the Gulf of Alaska, south of Valdez.

The Pentagon has admitted that during the Cold War, it tested chemical and biological weapons on its own troops in the U.S., United Kingdom and Canada. Call suggests bin Laden alive, plotting
Osama bin Laden is alive, travelling with his lieutenant, Egyptian Ayman Al Zawahri, living in Afghanistan and plotting more attacks, according to an intercepted satellite telephone conversation.
In the conversation, reportedly intercepted over the weekend by US and Afghan intelligence, the Taliban's fugitive one-eyed leader, Mullah Mohammed Omar, allegedly told his former deputy prime minister Maulvi Abdul Kabir that something will happen to change the scenario in Afghanistan in the next 45 days.

Pakistan hails second missile test a success

Pakistan has successfully test-fired a medium-range nuclear-capable ballistic missile, its second test within five days, defense officials have said.
The Shaheen-1 series test comes two days ahead of national polls, and on the final day of polling in Kashmir, the disputed region which has triggered two wars between India and Pakistan.

ICBM aka MINUTEMAN III
rocket launching over Hollywood 9/19/02 was watching TV when, out of the corner of my eye, I saw the Minuteman III intercontinental ballistic missile rising above the horizon. I grabbed my Canon G2 and dashed to the balcony. The view is from the hills of Silverlake looking west towards Hollywood. Unfortunately my tripod was in the car :/
