InterVideo Debuts "Instant On" PC
InterVideo Inc. hopes to bring its "Instant On" PC to U.S. shores this year, company executives said Friday. Equipped with InterVideo's technology, an Instant On PC can be booted in about ten seconds, far faster than a Windows-based computer.
InterVideo's InstantON technology allows a Windows PC to be transformed into an optimized media player that works with InterVideo's own software. The software, however, will be provided to OEMs and not sold at retail, InterVideo executives said.

Review of JVC's latest high-definition camcorder
Lengthy review over at Videography.com of JVC's HD10 video camera, their professional version of the GR-HD1, which was the world's first (and for the moment, only) high-definition digital camcorder for consumers. It ain't cheap, but it's still amazing that these days you can buy a high-definition video camera for less than $4,000.

BACKGROUND: THe basic idea is simple: Video is composed of a large number of individual frames, each with X and Y dimensions. Just stack each frame on top of the next and you've got a Z dimension to place into a volume renderer.
Traditionally used to display things like MRI's and CT scans, we're going to abuse the technology a bit in the name of art :-)

"Uncle Saddam" satire gets DVD release
A satirical documentary that portrays Iraqi President Saddam Hussein as a personal hygiene fanatic who likes to fish with grenades is getting a timely first time DVD release in the United States next week. "Uncle Saddam", made by French freelance journalist Joel Soler in 2000, received critical acclaim at international film festivals two years ago and resulted in death threats against Soler at his Los Angeles area home.

Video recorders are evolving into pocket-sized, portable digital machines that can records hours of entertainment, as BBC ClickOnline's Ian Hardy explains. One of the greatest inventions in the modern home was VHS recorder.
When it was introduced in 1964 there was a great deal of excitement. No longer did you have to miss your favourite show because of work, or worry if your partner wanted to watch something that clashed with your choice.

Schlachtfeld-TV mit Videotelefonen
Die US-Miliärs wollen in einem möglichen Irak-Krieg eine neue Kommunikations- bzw. Propagandatechnik zum Einsatz bringen.
Dabei sollen in Österreich gefertigte Satelliten-Videotelefone eine Art "Schlachtfeld-TV" ermöglichen, mit dem die Militärs viel flexibler als bisher auf aktuelle Ereignisse reagieren wollen.
