Japanese Live Octopus Wrestling… and biting
I have to say that this was even a little weird for us. Apparently wrestling a live octopus involves biting it?

On The Edge Of Blade Runner
Just saw this on Film Four tonight (UK TV chanel)... very interesting, but 50 minutes isn't even near long enough if you've read Paul Sammon's excellent "Future Noir: the Making of Blade Runner". Interviews with everybody involved except Harrison Ford and Sean Young of course, who hated each other's guts during the making of the film.

Great video!
Shot at 2000 frames per second, and well worth it. Vitalic supplies an amazing dance track, too!

Hip replacement
Few people would admit it, but cinema owes a great debt to Fatboy Slim. Not to mention Bjork, the Chemical Brothers, Daft Punk, Air, Massive Attack, Aphex Twin and a handful of other acts. If it wasn't for the fact that, Bjork aside, the titans of trip hop and big beat were all knob-twiddling, un-photogenic, slightly nerdy blokes, we might never have had such a gaping void to fill on MTV, and thus a golden age of music video. In the past, videos were all about making their stars look athletic, rich and beautiful, preferably in slow motion. But these faceless 1990s acts just needed something clever and arty, preferably without them in it.

Venice Project Launch Name: Joost
The Venice Project, the new online television startup led by Skype founders Niklas Zennstrom and Janus Friis, has always been a working name for the company. Until today, no one outside the company knew name the company would eventually launch as.
A tip from reader Joost Schreve led us to the domain name Joost.com: if you click the “cancel” button multiple times an unformatted web page pops up with information about the Venice Project. We have subsequently confirmed that this is the actual launch name of the company.

Did YouTube Cut the Gordian Knot of Video Codecs?
Playing video on a computer has always been a crapshoot. You must have the correct video codec installed, the same video codec that the clip was encoded with. If you don't, the video won't play. You'll have to find, download, and install the proper codec first. It's even more of a problem on the web, where users can run any combination of operating system and browser.
