Ein russischer Vermittler in der Geiselaffäre in Moskau hat heute Abend erklärt, die tschetschenischen Geiselnehmer würden noch heute mit der Erschießung der Geiseln beginnen, falls ihre Forderungen nicht erfüllt werden und führende Politiker nicht mit ihnen zu verhandeln begännen.

It is being said that the Russian government has broken off talks. The Russian government will not consider removing Russian troops from Chechnya. In fact, because of this, the government is promising to come down even harder in Chechnya.

Report: U.S. Unprepared for Attacks

Die Geiselnehmer in einem Moskauer Theater haben der russischen Regierung ein Ultimatum gesetzt. Moskau habe sieben Tage Zeit, seine Truppen aus Tschetschenien abzuziehen und den Einsatz in der Kaukasusrepublik zu beenden, erklärten die Rebellen auf ihrer Website kavkaz.org. Es ist klar, wo die Sympathien von Kavkaz liegen, und gerade deswegen sind die Texte lesenswert. Unvorstellbar, wie das Internet das Informationsangebot gewandelt hat: Wie hätte man vor fünf Jahren den ungefilterten Standpunkt von Terroristen kennen lernen können?

Gunmen seize Moscow theater. Theater director says about 1,000 people were inside. Details to come.
-- A group of about 20 armed gunmen has seized a Moscow movie theatre and are holding the audience, believed to be several hundred people, hostage, Interfax reports.
CNN's Ryan Chilcote says that Russia's elite Alpha Group of security troops have been dispatched to the scene, marking it out as a serious incident.
Interfax, one of whose reporters was in the theatre at the time, said the gunmen had allowed members of the audience to make phone calls and children to be released.

According to Russia's Federal Security Service, a group of armed men entered the theater Wednesday.
The Interfax news agency says one of its reporters was inside the theater at the time. She told them by phone that the armed men had fired into the air -- and that they are preventing the audience from leaving.

Die Root Server sind die zentralen Server im Internet, die an oberster Stelle des Domain Name Systems (DNS) befinden und auf globaler Ebene die Verknüpfung zwischen den Domainnamen und den numerischen Rechneradressen herstellen. Der Angriff sei zu kurz gewesen, um sich spürbar auf das Internet auszuwirken.
