Russian gas may be secret crowd-control weapon
Weapons experts have suggested a 1950s chemical weapon called 3-quinuclidinyl benzilate, or BZ, may have been used. This causes disorientation and hallucinations and was tested by the US on servicemen in the 1960s.
But according to Christopher Holstege of the University of Virginia, BZ takes an hour to start working and its effects peak at eight hours - whereas the Russian gas worked in seconds. Moreover, a hallucinogen seems a risky choice for terrorists strapped to bombs.

Military Toxicologists Guilty of Death Toll
The Western media pointed out the unwillingness of the Russian government to release the name of the gas. The Daily Telegraph of Great Britain wrote with reference to a London military expert that it was probably BZ gas. This gas was first used by the American military in Vietnam.
Russian experts also believe that it was BZ gas. Doctor of Chemical Science Lev Fyodorov, said: “There can be no other variant. Our special forces have only this kind of gas. Theoretically, it is not a lethal gas if it affects healthy people. However, there were elderly people, children with weak organisms, and asthma-sick individuals among the hostages. This gas was lethal for them.”

Cell Phones Were Mujahideens’ Downfall
When calls from hostages came, family members first established whether any terrorists were near the person placing the call. Family members and security officials said the phone would be passed to a security officer, who would ask “yes and no” questions to confirm key information about the terrorists — careful not to draw the hostage into a conversation that would be suspicious to the Chechen fighters.

Soporific Used During Special Operation
It’s likely that the special forces that stormed the theater building where Chechen terrorists held hostages used soporific to neutralize the terrorists, according to NEWSru.COM commenting on the video shot on the attack scene and demonstrated on the Russian ORT television.
The video demonstrated the terrorists, camouflaged men and women of Caucasian appearance, strapped with explosives. Judging by the poses of their bodies, the terrorists were killed while asleep.
