WHEN she introduced four podgy, TV-obsessed characters with no discernible language skills to Britain’s toddlers in 1996, there was a storm of controversy.
Her creation, the children’s television hit Teletubbies, was even denounced by the then education minister, Stephen Byers, who claimed it was responsible for dumbing down the nation. Parents and educationalists alike feared it would have a negative effect on the linguistic development of its intended audience - children aged six months to three years.

KALEIDESCAPE SYSTEM DVD SERVER STORES UP TO 160 MOVIES Kaleidescape, Inc. introduces the Kaleidescape System, a DVD Server that allows users to store their entire movie collection on hard disks, and to access any movie in their collection from any viewing zone in their home. A basic Kaleidescape System (pictured) has one Server (with five disk cartridges for storing up to 160 movies), one movie player, and one DVD reader. The movie guide service provides detailed information about thousands of movies.

Der Narr kann gehen
Mit dem spektakulären Abschied von seinem Haussender Sat.1 gelang Harald Schmidt seine bisher beste Show. Die Nation erregt sich über den Bildschirmrückzug des Entertainers - und auch seine Ex-Chefs müssen trauern: Sat.1 machte mit der angeblich defizitären Sendung durchaus Kasse.
