Unfortunately, the main point for getting rid of tv for most people is to free up the time. So this may not be a great idea for you. However, for those who are looking for ways to save money by getting rid of the tv, this is an alternative, besides waiting for the season to come out on video.

Streaming future of internet TV
While the current state of web streamed TV might be considerably less than high definition quality, the ability to watch TV from around the world on-demand could completely change when and how we enjoy our favourite shows.
Watching TV shows via the web can be a tricky business. Sure, you can download the latest episode of blockbuster programmes hours after their first transmission via torrent sites. Unfortunately this is normally illegal.

TV Torrents - When Piracy Is Easier Than Purchase
NBC's recent withdraw from the iTunes store leaves the millions of Apple's customers who have Macs or iPods without a legitimate way to purchase and watch NBC's content. Online media stores such as iTunes, Amazon and Walmart have never been able to compete with the pirates on price, or freedom and flexibility — as the content they sell is typically wrapped in restrictive DRM.

David Bowie to appear in Doctor Who?
Bowie, 60, has reportedly agreed to "cross swords" with the Time Lord after being approached by Who chiefs impressed with his 2006 outing as an inventor in The Prestige. There are no details of the storyline, apart from the suggestion that Bowie's character will get on the wrong side of the good Doctor by kidnapping writer Agatha Christie.

Three MythTV Linux distros compared
My Series 1 TiVo is getting old, so I am planning an escape route based on MythTV, a free software system that turns an old computer into a personal video recorder. This week I tested three MythTV-specific Linux distributions: KnoppMyth, MythDora, and MythBuntu. I found MythDora the best overall fit for my needs -- but there are important distinctions between the three that may lead you to a different decision.

Trek Bloopers [mp3]
Shortly after my graduation from high school (which was 20 years ago this year), I began exploring the world of record shows, thrift stores, and collector catalogs in search of rare and unusual albums for my collection.
While perusing through an issue of Goldmine Magazine, I came across this listing in a private collector sale that was advertised. What arrived in my mailbox was this rare, then much-soughtafter collector's item from the whole Star Trek phenomenon.
The back liner notes state, these bloopers were rescued from old reel-to-reel audio tapes from a "Hollywood garbage can" and sold to a Star Trek collector... only after they created this album to cash in! The rest of the liner notes detail the entire process of what "Fifty-five apples, take one" mean, why several of these tracks are painfully similar, and other info.
