Stefan Raab an unlikely TV star - ProSieben host set to become international mogul

He is obnoxious yet witty, irreverent and unconventional -- but he's got talent. Stefan Raab, a most unlikely Teuton TV star, has long been the creative centerpiece of the ProSieben empire.

In pubcaster-dominated Germany, TV exports haven't done particularly well. German humor always seemed to get lost in translation.

But Raab -- a self-deprecating host, producer, comedian, songwriter and singer from Cologne -- is on his way to becoming an international TV mogul with the surprising success of his offbeat gameshow "Schlag den Raab" (Beat Your Host), a format that has been turned into an improbable German export success.

'Weeds' Season Four recap

Nancy's having a baby! Or so it would appear, judging from the final scene of Weed's fourth season, which concluded last night. Caught between a rock and a drug lord, Nancy Botwin (Mary-Louis Parker) played a high-stakes card game, stumping Esteban's revealing photo of her and a DEA agent with one of her own baby bump. Thus ended Weeds' sexiest season ever.

Dispatches From Beijing - You think NBC is bad? You haven't seen CCTV.

To say that the airwaves are saturated with Olympics coverage here doesn't quite capture the feeling. Several of China Central Television's channels, as well as the local Beijing and other provincial channels, have given themselves over to 24/7 coverage of the games. Weeks before Friday's Opening Ceremony, we'd already seen endless rebroadcasts of the monthslong torch relay. Watch Torchbearer 61, a pudgy local government official, pass the torch to Torchbearer 62, a tall gangly European man from the United Nations! See the torch in the streets of Chengdu! And Tianjin! And in the outer Beijing Suburbs! And in Tianjin—again!
