US-Parlamentsfernsehen plötzlich von russischem TV unterbrochen
Bei Anhörung des designierten CIA-Chefs Mike Pompeo ging zudem plötzlich das Licht aus Washington/Moskau – Zuschauer des US-Parlamentsfernsehens haben anstelle des üblichen Programms am Donnerstag zeitweise den russischen Staatssender Russia Today (RT) zu sehen bekommen. "Heute Nachmittag wurde die Internetübertragung von C-SPAN kurzzeitig durch ein Programm von RT unterbrochen", teilte der Parlamentskanal C-SPAN in Washington im Kurzbotschaftendienst Twitter mit. Man gehe nicht von einem Hackerangriff, sondern von einem Verbindungsfehler aus.

TV industry paves way for humongously high-res video
The newest HDMI video technology will deliver 8K video. That's overkill for the vast majority of us, but it means improvements will also come to color, dynamic range and video smoothness.
The HDMI Forum, a group of electronics companies that includes everyone from LG and Sony to Google and Netflix, has announced plans to release HDMI 2.1 by the end of June. On Wednesday at CES 2017, HDMI backers said it means that TVs and computer monitors will be able to display video at a remarkable 7,680x4,320 pixels.

Few people in the news business have valued secrecy quite like Roger Ailes, the former C.E.O. of Fox News. Ailes’s very own corner office on the second floor of 21st Century Fox’s glass and steel headquarters, in Midtown Manhattan, featured a solid wood door that prevented anyone on the outside from peering in. Visitors had to be buzzed in by Ailes or an assistant. They were also captured on-camera, their image projected to a monitor on Ailes’s desk. Many assumed that such secrecy was a vestige of Ailes’s formative years advising Richard Nixon. Now, it appears that it may have run deeper. Last month, former anchor Gretchen Carlson filed suit against Ailes for sexual harassment—an event that ushered in a litany of former colleagues with similar stories. Weeks later, Ailes resigned. (Ailes has fervently denied all allegations. His lawyer, Susan Estrich, reiterated those denials. A spokesperson for 21st Century Fox also declined to comment for this piece.)

Iran destroyed 100,000 satellite dishes and receivers on Sunday as part of a crackdown against the illegal devices that authorities say are morally damaging. The destruction of the dishes and receivers took place in Tehran in the presence of General Mohammad Reza Naghdi, head of Iran’s Basij militia. "The truth is that most satellite [television] channels ... deviate the society’s morality and culture," he said, according to the Basij News website. "What these televisions really achieve is increased divorce, addiction and insecurity in society."

Fox News CEO Reportedly Loses Job Amid Sexual Harassment Claims
His show has been cancelled. The longtime conservative news executive will soon be out of a job after his standing went into a sudden free fall after allegations of sexual harassment from former Fox News Channel host Gretchen Carlson. A number of other women were reportedly ready to come forward with allegations of misconduct against the 76-year-old, including the network’s current leading female personality, Megyn Kelly. Fox hasn’t confirmed the departure, telling Deadline, “Roger is at work. The review is ongoing. And the only agreement that is in place is his existing employment agreement.”

KTVA reporter quits on-air, reveals herself as owner of Alaska Cannabis Club
Reporter Charlo Greene quit on-air during KTVA-TV's 10 p.m. newscast Sunday, revealing herself as the owner of the medical marijuana business Alaska Cannabis Club and telling viewers that she would be using all of her energy to fight for legalizing marijuana in Alaska.
Greene had reported on the Alaska Cannabis Club during Sunday night’s broadcast, without revealing her connection to it. At the end of the report, during a live shot, she announced that she was the club's owner and would be quitting.
