Chinese Government Says it Will Control Rainfall to Generate 10 Percent More Precipitation by 2015
China‘s boom in industry and population has put a strain on its natural resources – not to mention the health of the environment – over the past few decades. In order to alleviate the stress of growing crops for an ever-increasing population, the government is intervening with nature by rolling out four regional programs to artificially increase precipitation across the country by 10 percent before 2015. The program, which was included in the newly released 12th Five-Year Plan (2011-2015), is anticipated to bring in an additional 230 billion cubic meters of precipitation per year. This is on top of the 50 billion China already artificially creates annually in the northeastern province of Jilin.

OIL PRICES RISE 9% IN A DAY
Mounting concerns over Libya's violent crisis battered stocks once again Tuesday and sent oil prices surging, while the earthquake in the New Zealand city of Christchurch pushed the country's currency sharply lower.
With deep rifts opening up in Moammar Gadhafi's regime, air force pilots defecting and a bloody crackdown in the capital of Tripoli, investors are fretting over how the crisis will end and what the impact on the North African country's oil production will be.

Thanks for listening over all these years. Ehefrau auf die Terrorliste gesetzt
Ein Angestellter der britischen Einwanderungsbehörde hatte offenbar nicht den Mut, sich von seiner Frau scheiden zu lassen. Kurzerhand trug er sie auf die Liste der «gefährlichen Passagiere» ein. Schon war er sie los – seinen Job allerdings auch.

Mitten auf der Lützenkirchener Straße in Quettingen ist das eine, das ganz besondere Schlagloch, das Leverkusen zum Pilgerort machen wird. Wir haben uns am Freitagmorgen dieses eine besondere Schlagloch genauer angeguckt: Es sieht aus wie U2-Sänger Bono! Das Toast mit dem Gesicht der heilligen Maria hat eindeutig ausgedient, wir in Leverkusen haben was Besseres: Das Bono-Schlagloch!

Sharks Wary of Drunk Serbs
Dragan Stevic of Serbia is the new Egyptian hero who killed a large shark which had previously terrorized numerous tourists (injured 4 and killed 1) at the famous Egyptian resort Sarm El Sheikh.
The Serbian hero was too drunk to remember what had happened, though one of his friends who witnessed the incident explained it all for the Belgrade based media.

A North Carolina collectibles dealer is hawking a toilet ripped from reclusive author J.D. Salinger's former home.
Rick Kohl of The Vault said Friday he bought the standard white porcelain fixture from a New Hampshire couple who owned a home where the author of "Catcher in the Rye" once lived.

Seattle Gum Wall
One of the most offbeat attractions in the United States, the Seattle Gum Wall is also one of the most germ infected tourist spot in the world.
Located in Post Alley, under Park Place Market, the Gum Wall has its beginning in the early 1990s, when people, irritated that they had to wait in line to get tickets to the theater, stuck chewing gum on the wall. At first, they would use the gum to stick small coins to the wall, but in time, the tradition of the coins disappeared, and the gum remained.

Extraterrestrials strafe Bosnian with meteorites
Radivoke Lajic, 50, said that his house being hit by rocks from space was the result of an extraterrestrial grudge.
"I am obviously being targeted by extraterrestrials," he said.
"I don't know what I have done to annoy them but there is no other explanation that makes sense.
"The chance of being hit by a meteorite is so small that getting hit six times has to be deliberate."
