WoW - RL Race Across Azeroth
We've always wondered what it would be like to run the same distance in the real world that we run every day in Warcraft. Finding out required duct tape, computers, custom scripts, sore legs, and elf ears. We had been wanting to connect a treadmill to Warcraft and calibrate the speed for a long time. Probably since we started calling Warcraft "RunCraft" because neither of us had mounts.

The “Wow” and Other Mysterious Sounds of the Earth
If you listen closely, you’ll find that the earth is full of sounds. Some are things that you hear every day, some are truly remarkable and some sounds hail from origins completely unknown. What follows here is a list of "sonic mysteries" for your pleasure - many of them include audio.
"No discussion of mysterious sounds would be complete without this one, although it’s not a sound from earth - it’s from space.
On August 15, 1977 a SETI scientist working at the Big Ear radio telescope of the Ohio State University noticed a very strong signal that lasted for 72 seconds. The type of signal resembled signals that are non-terrestrial and non-solar system in origin."

The World's Weirdest Vending Machines
Today’s news that Best Buy is to put vending machines into airports got me thinking about these automated, mechanical stores. Vending machines can be incredibly useful if they are put in the right place, and sell the right things. They are available 24 hours and can empower even the shyest of shoppers to buy normally embarrassing items (toilet paper, anyone?)

The binary-ASCII code from Crabwood 2002: a second message embedded somewhere?
On August 15, 2002, a now-famous crop picture appeared at Crabwood in England. It showed the schematic image of a "military grey alien" using an old-fashioned 60-line TV signal from the 1950's, and also the image of a "spiral compact disc".

Flat-earthers
Flat-earthers are people who believe, here in the 21st century, that the earth is flat. (Believers in a round earth are called globularists.)
And what about the fact that no one has ever fallen off the edge of our supposedly disc-shaped world? Mr McIntyre laughs. "This is perhaps one of the most commonly asked questions," he says. "A cursory examination of a flat earth map fairly well explains the reason - the North Pole is central, and Antarctica comprises the entire circumference of the Earth. Circumnavigation is a case of travelling in a very broad circle across the surface of the Earth."

Camera-Equipped DelFly Micro Weighs Only 3 Grams
When we wrote about the super tiny 16 gram DelFly MAV (micro air vehicle) last November, we promised that there were even smaller versions in the works, including the DelFly Micro at 5 grams. Looks like that was an overestimation, as the DelFly micro has had its maiden flight and it tips the scales at an incredibly tiny 3.07 grams. What do you get for 3.07 grams? Everything you could ask for, pretty much… The ornithopter has a 10 centimeter wingspan, is fully remote controllable, and includes an onboard camera that streams video to a base station

Buy the typewriter on which Douglas Adams wrote Hitchhiker's Guide for $25,257.94
There's something so appropriately surreal and disarming about seeing a literary cultural artifact like the autographed typewriter Douglas Adams used to write The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy on a book reseller website and sitting right next to a huge red "Add to Basket" button. But there it is, the original Babelfish that translated Adams' own genius-madness into transmissionable form!
