London: Anonym U-Bahnfahren kostet mehr
Nachdem Großbritannien bereits die höchste Überwachungskamera-Dichte Europas aufweist, sollen jetzt die Bewegungen einzelner Verkehrsteilnehmer in noch nicht da gewesenem Ausmaßen erfasst werden.
Nach automatischen Pkw-Kontrollen sind nun die U-Bahnfahrer dran. Funktionieren soll die Kontrolle über die Geldbörse: Anonymes U-Bahnfahren kostet mehr als überwachtes.

Wiens Hunde bekommen Chip
Wiener Hunde bekommen eine elektronische Kennzeichnung. Möglich macht das eine Novelle des Tierschutzgesetzes, die am Dienstag beschlossen werden soll. Vorgesehen ist neben dem "Hundechip" auch ein neues Hunderegister.

Böser Klick
Die Sicherheitsfirma eEye hat ein Sicherheitsloch im Internet Explorer aufgedeckt. Verhängnisvollerweise reicht ein unbedachter Klick auf auf eine URL um ohne weitere Nachfragen ein beliebiges Programm aus dem Internet herunterzuladen, zu installieren und auszuführen. So können sich unbemerkt Viren, Dialer oder andere böswillige Programme einschleichen.

George Orwell irrte doch. Es ist nicht so sehr die Regierung, die sich zum alles wissenden, alles sehenden "Big Brother" entwickelt hat, wie Orwell dies in seinem Roman "1984" beschrieb. Es ist viel mehr die Wirtschaft, die die Überwachung vorantreibt.

Office workers give away passwords for a cheap pen
Workers are prepared to give away their passwords for a cheap pen, according to a somewhat unscientific - but still illuminating - survey published today.
The second annual survey into office scruples, conducted by the people organising this month's InfoSecurity Europe 2003 conference, found that office workers have learnt very little about IT security in the past year.
If anything, people are even more lax about security than they were a year ago, the survey found.

Password-stealing e-mails spread
Scam widens; latest seeks Discover Card accounts
Beware any e-mail, however professional in tone, that asks for personal account information. Internet users continue to be flooded with legitimate-looking e-mails that ask recipients to enter account numbers, passwords, and other data. A new con aimed at Discover Card holders is just the latest in a long line of scam e-mails sent by con artists trying to hijack accounts at AOL, PayPal, eBay and other online firms.
