Paris Hilton 'can't believe' her cell phone was hacked
While Hollywood gossips about who was - and wasn't - in Paris Hilton's cell phone book, the hotel heiress/reality TV star says she feels "horrible."
Last week, Hilton's cell phone was hacked into and its contents (her phone numbers and e-mail addresses) were posted on the Internet.

Latest Mydoom shows hackers using search engines for attacks
Last week's Mydoom worm variant is the latest example of how some hackers are using search engines to spread worms, find easily exploitable targets and unearth vulnerability information for launching attacks (see story).
The Mydoom.be @MM worm first discovered on Feb. 20 was a mass-mailing worm that used its own SMTP engine to send e-mails to addresses it gathered from compromised computers. The worm was also programmed to harvest e-mail addresses from search engines such as Google, AltaVista and Lycos and then use them to distribute itself further.

T-Mobile-Hack bringt Stars in Bedrängnis
Letztes Jahr konnte sich ein Angreifer Zugang zu persönlichen Daten von Kunden des Mobilfunkers T-Mobile USA verschaffen. Auch das Handy von Sternchen Paris Hilton wurde dabei ausgelesen und der Inhalt im Internet veröffentlicht.
Neben diversen Fotos, die mit der Mobiltelefon-Kamera aufgenommen wurden, handelt es sich um Handynummern und E-Mail-Adressen von Stephen King, Fred Durst, Avril Lavigne, Ashley Olsen, Usher, Christina Aguilera und vielen weiteren Stars.

Kalifornische Schule bricht RFID-Test ab
Die Brittan-Grundschule im kalifornischen Sutter hat die Tests zur Anwesenheitsüberwachung ihrer Schüler mit RFID-Technik abgebrochen. Die Ausrüsterfirma InCom habe sich nach massiven Protesten der Eltern zurückgezogen, um den Schulbetrieb nicht zu beeinträchtigen, teilt die Schulleitung mit (PDF). Die Eltern sahen die Privatsphäre ihrer Kinder eingeschränkt, befürchteten aber auch Gesundheitsgefahren.

House backs major shift to electronic IDs
The U.S. House of Representatives approved on Thursday a sweeping set of rules aimed at forcing states to issue all adults federally approved electronic ID cards, including driver's licenses.
Under the rules, federal employees would reject licenses or identity cards that don't comply, which could curb Americans' access to airplanes, trains, national parks, federal courthouses and other areas controlled by the federal government. The bill was approved by a 261-161 vote.

Microsoft to give governments advance security info
Microsoft is starting a new effort targeted at governments that may be contemplating a move in the direction of open source. Called the Security Cooperation Program, the initiative will give participating government agencies advance notice on security patches, meaning that they will be notified of existing security flaws prior to the general public. Microsoft will also give advice on network security issues.

This illustration cracked me up. The Microsoft Japan web site illustrates the threat posed by a vulnerability in MS04-001. The fact that the hacker icon has John Lennon sunglasses and a black watch cap put me over the edge. I’m sure every script kiddie out there will have new inspiration for their wardrobe.

Tödlicher Sicherheitswahn in Mexiko
Die Bürger nehmen die Justiz zunehmend selbst in die Hand und werden vom Staat auch dazu ermuntert. In Mexiko-City wurden am 23. November zwei Bundespolizisten von einem Lynchmob bei lebendigem Leib verbrannt. Die Anwohner hielten die Beamten, die in der Nähe einer Schule als verdeckte Ermittler Fotos machten, für Kindesentführer. Der Fall wirft ein Schlaglicht auf die Hilflosigkeit der Bürger angesichts eines Justizsystems, dem sie nicht vertrauen können, aber auch auf die Auswirkungen des von Medien und Politik immer weiter angeheizten Diskurses über Kriminalität. Die linksliberale Hauptstadtregierung spielt paradoxerweise den Vorreiter in Sachen "präventiver Verbrechensbekämpfung" - und bekämpft damit in erster Linie die Armen.

Österreichs Regierung bereitet ein Gesetz vor, das den Bürger de facto entmündigt. Unter dem sperrigen Titel Gesundheitstelematikgesetz wird in Österreich die Rechtgrundlage zum umfassenden Austausch sensibler Personendaten geschaffen. Gesundheitsdienstanbietern soll der Zugriff auf sämtliche Gesundheitsdaten unkontrolliert ermöglicht werden. Österreichs Opposition und Datenschutz-Aktivisten sind empört.

Warnung vor US-Pässen mit Funkchips
Die künftigen US-Pässe, die mit einem Funkchip ausgestattet werden sollen, könnten zum elektronischen "Schnüffeln" einladen. Diese Befürchtung hat jetzt die amerikanische Bürgerrechtsvereinigung American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) geäußert.
Denn die im Chip gespeicherten Daten könnten nicht nur von den Behörden bei der Passkontrolle automatisch abgelesen werden, sondern möglicherweise aus einer Entfernung von bis zu zehn Metern elektronisch ausspioniert werden.
