RECORD BALLOON FLIGHT SUNK BY WEATHER
The amazing record attempt to fly the world's largest balloon from the Westcountry to the edge of space this summer was finally called off yesterday due to unsuitable weather conditions. In order to beat the existing manned balloon altitude record the two pilots planned to ascend 132,000ft - around 25 miles.

Update: Third "Door" Found in Great Pyramid
Scientists exploring the Great Pyramid in Egypt sent a robot into the northern shaft in the past few days, discovering another blocking stone. The "door" appears to be identical to the one in the southern shaft that was already known. The doors are equidistant (65 meters/208 feet) from the queen's chamber. It is the third such block discovered within the shafts of the pyramid.

Researchers who spent a year planning the exploration of a shaft in Egypt’s Great Pyramid stumbled on another mystery when they finally took a look beyond a mysterious door — and found yet another door. The discovery might mean another year of work and new technology.

Door locks in secrets of Egyptian pyramid
Hopes of unlocking the mysteries of Egypt's biggest pyramid have hit a new snag after a robot crawling up a narrow shaft to peek through an ancient limestone door found a second stone slab blocking the way. "Pyramid Rover" climbed about 65 metres (213 feet) up one of two passages stretching from a chamber inside the pyramid of Cheops to peer through a hole in the door which some thought might conceal secret chambers, statues of the pharaoh or ancient scrolls dating back 4,500 years.
I know we covered the story of robots exploring the Great Pyramid back in August but now that the major wire services have caught up with us, there have been stories appearing all over the place. Die Qual der Wahl
Welcher unter den Kandidaten soll als gewählt gelten? Derjenige, der dem Willen der Wähler am genauesten entspricht. Aber wie auch immer man dieses Ziel versteht, es ist unerreichbar. Immerhin lassen sich einige Betrügereien und Paradoxien samt zugehöriger Enttäuschung vermeiden.
