DoD Satellite Tracked Siberian Fireball that Might have Hit Earth
The U.S. Department of Defense has confirmed an apparent space rock that lit a fire in the night sky above a remote region of Siberia last month. Meanwhile, scientists struggle to pin down whether or not the object slammed into the planet.
Eyewitnesses in the Bodaibo district reported seeing a fireball race across the sky Sept. 24. Hunters later said they found a crater surrounded by burned forest. A seismic monitor in the region, according to the British NEO Information Center possibly recorded the event.

New Laser Technology Announced
For “Seeing” Through Fire And Smoke Will Save Countless Lives
RL Associates Inc. in conjunction with AMPAC Inc. are developing a man-portable, affordable, eye-safe laser imaging system. The FireLidar system will permit not only the visualization of victims, but aspects of their surroundings (steps, obstructions, missing floors, fallen objects in path, etc.) that are obscured by the glare and thermal bloom of the fire and the scattering of light by the smoke. This Firelidar system can also be used remotely from outside of a building or structure. In addition, the device is meant to be used in conjunction with existing thermal imaging systems to provide firefighters with a much better understanding of the situation at hand.

Mysterious find under sea could be lost city of Atlantis
Sonar images taken from a research ship 2,000 feet above are even more puzzling. They show that the smooth, white stones are laid out in a geometric pattern. The images look like fragments of a city, spanning nearly eight square miles of a deep-ocean plain off Cuba's western tip.

Radio waves could construct buildings in space
Huge buildings could be conjured up in space using nothing more than focused radio waves to push individual components into place. Radio-controlled construction would get around one of the obstacles to colonising space - the need to ferry heavy construction equipment into orbit and support the people who will operate it.

Safe sex and a slice?
Australian scientists believe they have rediscovered an effective use for lemon juice -- as a contraceptive and also a killer of the AIDS virus.
Reproductive physiologist Roger Short, from the University of Melbourne's obstetrics department, said a few drops of lemon juice can be a cheap, easy-to-use solution to protect women from both HIV and pregnancy.
