Egypt's unfinished revolution
Since the afternoon of November 19, a steady battle has been raging up and down Mohammad Mahmoud Street at the heart of downtown Cairo. As the mounting flurry of press coverage around this newest phase of Egypt's revolution has noted, the extraordinary events of the past few days have given Mohammad Mahmoud both strategic and symbolic significance: The street is one of the main thoroughfares leading out of the Square in the direction of the Interior Ministry. As the current regime has resorted to ever-more-brutal tactics in its efforts to quash the reoccupation of Tahrir, Mohammad Mahmoud Street has become the frontline in clashes between security forces from the Ministry and protesters fighting to hold the Square. The more the violence unleashed by security resembles or even exceeds the horrific experiences of late January, the more the Interior Ministry becomes a focal point for those who see the revolution as incomplete.

Staatstrojaner - Eine neue Dimension der Privatheit
Computer sind der Inbegriff der Privatsphäre. Um sie zu schützen, reicht es nicht mehr, auf Fachleute zu vertrauen. Wir brauchen eine neue Bürgerbewegung.
Es ist schon abenteuerlich, wie die Politik mit einem der wichtigsten Urteile des Bundesverfassungsgerichts, dem Urteil zur Online-Durchsuchung vom 27. Februar 2008, umgeht. Das Gericht entwickelte darin aus dem allgemeinen Persönlichkeitsrecht ein neues Grundrecht: auf Gewährleistung der Vertraulichkeit und Integrität informationstechnischer Systeme, kurz IT-Grundrecht. In vierzehn Entscheidungen hat das Gericht in den letzten Jahren versucht, das Gleichgewicht zwischen dem Schutz der inneren Sicherheit und dem Respekt vor den Persönlichkeitsrechten in ein neues Gleichgewicht zu bringen, nachdem die Politik der Sicherheit immer stärker den Vorrang gegeben hatte. Umgesetzt hat die Politik viele Vorgaben des Gerichts oft nur widerwillig oder gar nicht.

Stop the Great Firewall of America
China operates the world’s most elaborate and opaque system of Internet censorship. But Congress, under pressure to take action against the theft of intellectual property, is considering misguided legislation that would strengthen China’s Great Firewall and even bring major features of it to America.
The legislation — the Protect IP Act, which has been introduced in the Senate, and a House version known as the Stop Online Piracy Act — have an impressive array of well-financed backers, including the United States Chamber of Commerce, the Motion Picture Association of America, the American Federation of Musicians, the Directors Guild of America, the International Brotherhood of Teamsters and the Screen Actors Guild. The bills aim not to censor political or religious speech as China does, but to protect American intellectual property. Alarm at the infringement of creative works through the Internet is justifiable. The solutions offered by the legislation, however, threaten to inflict collateral damage on democratic discourse and dissent both at home and around the world.

KMK-Generalsekretär Udo Michallik werde sich persönlich an die Ministerin wenden, um ihr Sinn und Zweck des Programms zu erklären, sagte eine KMK-Sprecherin. Ziel sei nicht die Überwachung der Lehrer, vielmehr sollten Schulen und Lehrer vor Raubkopien geschützt werden. Die Software habe den großen Vorteil, dass nicht jeder Lehrer einzeln mit der Verwertungsgesellschaft aushandeln müsse, ob er Lehrmaterial vervielfältigen dürfe oder nicht. Außerdem könne die Software verhindern, dass Lehrer unwissentlich gegen das Urheberrecht verstoßen.

ISI knew where Laden lived, provided shelter to Zawahiri
The officials of Pakistan's Inter-Services Intelligence were aware of Osama bin Laden's hideout in Abbottabad, not only this, they also provided protection and safe houses to his then deputy and now the top al-Qaida leader Ayman al-Zawahiri, according to a new book.
The ISI officials periodically checked on Laden also, this sensational disclosure has been by Chuck Pfarrer, a former SEALs, in his latest book Seal Target Geronimo that hit the stands here Tuesday.
