Rumsfeld Receives 'Foot in Mouth' Award
He may not know it — or know that he knows it — but Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld has won this year's "Foot in Mouth" award for the most baffling statement by a public figure. Britain's Plain English Campaign, scourge of jargon, cliches and legalese, announced the honors Tuesday, giving runner-up to California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger.
The top prize went to Rumsfeld for this logic-twister he gave at a press briefing on Iraq.

Schewardnadse in Deutschland gelandet
Auf dem Flugplatz Söllingen bei Baden-Baden ist am Mittag ein Lear-Jet gelandet. An Bord befand sich der zurückgetretene georgische Präsident Eduard Schewardnadse. Wenig später verließ ein blaugelber Hubschrauber das Gelände. In den vergangenen Tagen war bereits öfters darüber spekuliert worden, dass Schewardnadse nach Baden-Baden kommt. Die Maschine rollte sofort nach der Landung in einen abgesperrten Raum.

GROUND FARCE 1
THE Queen is furious with President George W. Bush after his state visit caused thousands of pounds of damage to her gardens at Buckingham Palace.
Royal officials are now in touch with the Queen's insurers and Prime Minister Tony Blair to find out who will pick up the massive repair bill. Palace staff said they had never seen the Queen so angry as when she saw how her perfectly-mantained lawns had been churned up after being turned into helipads with three giant H landing markings for the Bush visit.

Palastdiener wollen die Queen noch nie so erbost gesehen haben. Objekt des königlichen Zorns: der US-Präsident. George W. Bush soll während seines Besuchs im Buckingham-Palast den Garten der Königin verwüstet haben. Selbst die Flamingos der Königin seien traumatisiert.

Around 100,000 protesters marched through London and tore down a mock statue of visiting U.S. president George W. Bush on Thursday, many of them convinced his policies were to blame for anti-British bombs in Turkey.

American jeans, Florida orange juice and dozens of other US products could double in price from next month because of a growing transatlantic trade war.
