Video shows trooper is surprised by Al Gore
One month ago Oregon State Trooper Eric Tholberg made another routine traffic stop, yet what Tholberg did not know at the time was the man behind the wheel would not be in the position of getting a speeding ticket if the presidential election had gone differently in 2000.
Al Gore never had a chance to be president; so he stepped from the national spotlight back into normal American life, which includes speeding tickets.

City officials later said they would release all of the protesters by late Thursday.
The legal battle came as the convention received a mostly mellow sendoff from demonstrators who had spent the early part of the week venting their rage at the Bush administration.

Bikini-clad vendor could be landmark or traffic hazard
The Hot Dog Lady is in trouble -- not for the franks, but perhaps her buns. Bikini-clad Katharine Schultze sells hot dogs from a cart near a popular lake in York County, Maine. Local officials say she's creating a traffic hazard and have posted no-parking signs.
But Schultze notes she's been selling franks at the same spot for a decade. The Hot Dog Lady's supporters say the no-parking rule has more to due with Schultze's bikini than any traffic concerns.

Swedish burglars make off with fishy haul
Burglars tore down part of a wall to get into a grocer's shop in central Sweden, but apparently were only after fish cakes and a little shrimp - they didn't touch the cash.
"It puzzles both me and police why they took the trouble to tear down a wooden panel in the wall without taking anything of real value," storekeeper Yvonne Holm told the AP on Wednesday.
