Diamond thieves pull off 100-million-dollar Paris heist
Armed robbers pulled off one of the world's biggest jewellery heists at a famed Paris store, making off with 85 million euros (107 million dollars) in diamonds and valuables, officials said Friday.
A gang of four thieves -- two of them disguised as women -- on Thursday stole nearly all the jewels on display at the Harry Winston boutique just off the Champs-Elysees avenue, which attracts a wealthy international clientele.

Attorney gets six months for F-word
For the second day in a row, Judge Robert Ruehlman threw someone in jail and cited him for contempt for cussing in the courtroom. Advertisement
It was an accused gang member Wednesday. On Thursday, it was a private attorney in a non-criminal case.
Michael Brautigam was before Ruehlman representing himself in a contentious civil suit he had filed against his North Avondale condo association and other condo owners in the building who are represented by Cincinnati attorney Peter Koenig.

Police using an isolated shooting range in Austria have been banned from urinating in nearby bushes if they are caught short.

Policeman tasers self in attempted arrest
A police officer was a bit too quick on the trigger when attempting to make an arrest - he managed to taser himself.
The self-tasering, believed to be a rare event, followed a police chase in Texas.

U.S. border police arrest Mexican troops
U.S. border police arrested seven Mexican soldiers after they accidentally strayed over the international boundary into Arizona, authorities said.
The U.S. Border Patrol said agents encountered the troops in a Humvee a short distance north of the border near Yuma, in far west Arizona, early on Friday.
"The Border Patrol agents on scene established a dialogue with the subjects, who identified themselves as members of the Mexican military," the Border Patrol said in a news release.

Polizei sucht Sesamstraßen-"Ernie"
Die Polizei in Bayreuth bittet um Ihre Mithilfe! "Ernie" aus der Sesamstraße ist nämlich als Verkehrs-"Grobi" erwischt worden.Mit 155 km/h ist die Puppe auf der A9 am Bindlacher Berg geblitzt worden. Erlaubt waren lediglich 120 km/h.

89-jähriger Raser ohne Führerschein erwischt
Durch seinen Fahrstil ist gestern ein 89-jähriger Vorarlberger in Tirol einer Polizeistreife aufgefallen. Bei der Kontrolle stellte sich heraus, dass dem Pensionisten der Führerschein bereits entzogen worden war.

Tresore gestohlen - Polizei merkte nichts
Kurz nach Mitternacht sind vermutlich mehrere Täter in die Innsbrucker Hauptpost eingedrungen. Sie entwendeten mehrere Schließfächer und einen Tresor. Da Alarm ausgelöst wurde, war die Polizei an Ort und Stelle, zog mangels Einbruchsspuren aber wieder ab.

Speed cameras will be able to track drivers for miles - Speed cameras which can track drivers for up to 30 miles are to be deployed on roads next year.
The device is to stop motorists dodging tickets by braking suddenly before a camera and speeding up immediately afterwards.
The cameras will work together in a network, and can be positioned more than 15 miles apart, automatically reading numberplates and transmit data instantly to a penalty processing centre.

Nach der spektakulären Festnahme von zwei Terrorverdächtigen am Flughafen Köln-Bonn kommen Zweifel an der Aktion auf. Offenbar kam der Einsatz zu früh - und der entscheidende Hinweis war möglicherweise nur ein hysterischer Liebesbrief.

„Sie können den Trägerinnen das Leben retten“, sagt Carmen Kibat (34). Von ihrem Büro im Bundespolizeiamt Hamburg in der Jenfelder Allee organisierte sie die bundesweite Aktion „Einsatz-BH“.
Die Polizeihauptmeisterin und Gleichstellungs-Beauftragte: „Normale BHs stellen ein Sicherheitsrisiko dar. Wenn eine Kugel auf die schusssichere Weste der Beamtin trifft und sich darunter ein BH mit Metall- oder Kunststoffteilen befindet, dann können dadurch schlimme Verletzungen ausgelöst werden.“
