Italiener mit 50 Kilogramm Schwammerln aufgegriffen - Behörde vernichtete die Beute
Es war der größte Schwammerlraub, der der Sondereinsatzgruppe der Kärntner Bergwacht bislang untergekommen ist. Fast 50 Kilogramm Pilze, darunter 40 Kilogramm Eierschwammerln, hatten drei italienische Sammler bei sich, als sie von der Kärntner Pilze-Soko aufgegriffen wurden. Sie wurden ertappt, als sie ihre Ausbeute, versteckt in prallgefüllten Rucksäcken, im Auto verstauen wollten.

Mexican police investigate hotel over stockpiling Cancun beach sand
Tourists have found their little piece of Cancun beach paradise ringed by crime-scene tape and gun-toting sailors after a hotel was accused of illegally stockpiling sand. Environmental enforcement officers backed by Mexican navy personnel closed off hundreds of feet of powder-white coastline in front of the hotel.

Great art or bad taste? A "Nazi" garden gnome in Nuremberg has prompted a public investigation and a renewed debate on what constitutes art.
The humble garden gnome is usually associated with quaint tradition rather than progressive art. Nonetheless, a gallery owner in the German city of Nuremberg has caused controversy by displaying in his window a golden gnome making the Nazi salute.

Thieves 'using Google Earth to steal koi carp'
They are believed to be using Internet mapping systems to identify gardens with ponds so they can take the sought-after specimens.
Twelve thefts of the exotic fish and pond equipment, some of which are worth hundreds of pounds, have been reported over a three-week period across Hull, East Yorks.

Escape and other tools made by inmates in German prisons, from the photographer Marc Steinmetz. My favorite is the functional battery-powered shotgun, although the hand-made toaster is a testament to the love of a decent breakfast.

Monacos Polizei verhaftet mutmaßliche Meisterdiebe
Den Behörden in Monaco sind offenbar drei international gesuchte Juwelendiebe ins Netz gegangen. Sie sollen der Räuberbande Pink Panthers angehören. Auf das Konto des Syndikats gehen vermutlich rund 120 Überfälle. Wert der Beute: mehr als 200 Millionen Euro.

Journalist on trial for killing fish with shampoo
A DANISH journalist is to go on trial next week for killing 12 guppy fish with shampoo live on television. Lisbeth Kloester, a television presenter on the Danish public channel DV1, said she poured a "very diluted" amount of shampoo into a fish tank on a 2004 episode of the consumer affairs show she fronted to demonstrate the level of toxic material in a brand of anti-dandruff shampoo.

Grandma Arrested for Child Porn
Back in 2005, a WalMart worker in Pennsylvania reported 59-year-old Donna Dull to local authorities after Dull dropped off some film that included shots of her three-year-old granddaughter in and just out of the bath. Dull was arrested—roughly, she says—and charged with producing and distributing child pornography. The charges were dropped 15 months later when a Pennsylvania special prosecutor overruled the local DA. Only Dull, her attorney, and police and prosecutors have apparently seen the photos, which are now under seal. She's now suing.
