The Japanese people on whaling… We don’t care… What’s for dinner?

Recently in the international news media there has been a lot of hype surrounding photos released by the Australian government showing whaling by Japanese scientific research fleets [those interested can read British, American, and Australian ]. As an Australian who often checks newspaper websites from home, I found it was a featured news story getting a lot of attention. The Australian federal environmental minister went on the record and called the images “sickening.”

Psst! DVDs Are Starting To Die Too...

For years, we've been pointing out that disc-based media was on the way out, but for the industries (mainly music and movies) that make money from selling those discs, the allure of the cash cow was too strong.

Top 10 Discoveries of 2007

Hardly week goes by without a major archaeological discovery or the publication of a radical new theory about the human past. Reducing a year's worth of these stories to the 10 most important was a tall order, especially since our intent was to go beyond the headlines and select those we thought made a significant impact on the field--ones that will be talked about for decades.

The transistor turns 60

The transistor, the ubiquitous building block of all electronic circuits, will be 60 years old on Sunday. The device is jointly credited to William Shockley (1910-1989), John Bardeen (1908-1991) and Walter Brattain (1902-1987), and it was Bardeen and Brattain who made the first working point-contact transistor on 16 December 1947.

PETA hates the Olsens?

To say that PETA is not a fan of the Olsen twins would be to put it lightly.

In fact, they’ve actually created an entire site that’s just designed to bash on the fur-wearing twins.

Wachovia Bank Tells Man He Owes $211 Trillion

It’s one thing to bounce a check and it’s another to be so far in the red Bill Gates, Warren Buffet and Donald Trump combined couldn’t come close to bailing you out. A Cobb County man got a letter from his bank with that very shocking news.

“And I open up the letter and I look at it and I’m like, ‘No, you’ve got to be kidding me,’ said Joe Martins.

Martins said he recently closed an account at Wachovia Bank and made good on an outstanding check. He just got a letter about the closure and his negative balance -- $211,010,028,257,303.00. That’s $211 trillion.
