"fire-safe" cigarettes
N.Y. Adopts New Rules on Cigarette Papers
To prevent house fires set by careless smokers, New York state has adopted the nation's first rules mandating that cigarettes sold in the state must be rolled with lower-ignition paper. The so-called "fire-safe" cigarettes will extinguish by themselves if not puffed on, and advocates say they will prevent many of the fires now triggered by smokers who leave cigarettes unattended.

In search of enlightenment and answers, information seekers the world over turned to Yahoo! Search in 2003. File-sharing program Kazaa beat out heavy hitters like Harry Potter and Britney Spears to take top overall honors. War in Iraq and rumors of cloned babies topped news searches, while American Idol and Survivor continued to outlast their reality TV competition.

Quicktime VR from New Year 2004 Celebration at Times Square
The New Year Celebration at Times Square is famous. And so is the panorama last year by Jook Leung. Ranked among the top 10 during all 2003 at Google in searches for Times Square or New Years Eve. Now he has done it again.
I have seen many speculations in Forums about how a panorama like this is made. Some people are absolutely sure that it is made with a special camera which captures everything in one shot. I have also seen one saying that Jook used 6 cameras triggered simultaneously.

Wildschweine fielen "vom Himmel"
Alles Gute kommt von oben. Dieses Motto hat sich für einen Autofahrer in Haibach nicht bewahrheitet. Der Mann wäre im Ortsgebiet um ein Haar von einem 70 Kilogramm schweren Wildschwein getroffen worden, das plötzlich vor ihm auf die Straße fiel.

Blackout in San Francisco
Ein Stromausfall hat Teile der Innenstadt von San Francisco lahm gelegt. Zeitweise waren rund 120.000 Menschen von dem Blackout betroffen. Noch immer sind einige Bereiche der Stadt ohne Strom. Nach offiziellen Angaben gab es jedoch keine Verletzte oder Tote. Auch der U-Bahn-Verkehr war betroffen, da mehre Stationen nicht angefahren werden konnten.

Es gibt viele Schliche, mit denen "Schwarze Schafe" auf dem Telekommunikationsmarkt ahnungslose Verbraucher ausnehmen. Dazu gehört etwa, für "Verwähler" im Festnetz mehr als 60 Euro zu berechnen. Andere Methoden sind ungebetene Faxwerbung oder auch die Täuschung von Postkunden in der Vorweihnachtszeit.

Almost half of Germans cheat on partner
Almost every second German is cheating on, or has cheated on, their partner, according to a new survey.
A November survey of 1,059 men and women aged between 20 and 60 by the Hamburg-based GEWIS research institute for "Stern" magazine showed 51 percent of men and 43 percent of women said they had cheated at least once on their partner.
