Meet the Next Billionaires

Sitting at the long trestle tables in Y Combinator's Mountain View, Calif., headquarters last January, the Weeblies felt wobbly. Back home at Penn State, the three undergraduates were alpha geeks, go-getters who'd capitalized on the university's requirement that students have a Web portfolio by creating software that makes it really easy for students to build a personal site. The trio—David Rusenko, Dan Veltri and Chris Fanini, all 22 years old—decided to start a company, calling it Weebly because it sounded good and the domain name was open. Then last November they heard about a company called Y Combinator that gives seed money to fledgling start-ups and imports a bunch to Silicon Valley for three months of intensive entrepreneuring. They sent off their application the day before the deadline, and made the cut.

Article continues Hundreds of millions of pounds are reported to have passed through the accounts, from an offshore company secretly owned by BAE called Poseidon.

One Drop Toilet Smell Eater Best Invention Ever!

Depending on your point of view (man or woman) this is just a cool invention or the best thing ever. There is now a liquid drop, called One Drop, for people (mainly men we're guessing again) to use in their toilet to get rid of the smells. While we're sure this was tested by normal people with normal turds, we're curious how 2 dudes on a diet of nachos and beer with a case of the "Green Apple Splatters" will fare with this product.

The 23 Phenomenon Robert Anton Wilson

With the release of The Number 23 earlier this year we paid tribute to the late, much lamented Robert Anton Wilson by reprinting this 1977 article from (you guessed it) Fortean Times 23.

I first heard of the 23 enigma from William S Burroughs, author of Naked Lunch, Nova Express, etc. According to Burroughs, he had known a certain Captain Clark, around 1960 in Tangier, who once bragged that he had been sailing 23 years without an accident. That very day, Clark’s ship had an accident that killed him and everybody else aboard. Furthermore, while Burroughs was thinking about this crude example of the irony of the gods that evening, a bulletin on the radio announced the crash of an airliner in Florida, USA. The pilot was another captain Clark and the flight was Flight 23.

Swiss solar-powered boat completes fuel-free Atlantic voyage

A Swiss-built solar-powered vessel arrived in New York City on Tuesday on what the group behind the project said was the first sun-powered voyage across the Atlantic.

Dubbed "sun21," the catamaran reached North Cove Marina after a journey of six months and some 13,000 kilometres from Chipiona, Spain, to the Caribbean island Martinique and then along the U.S. East Coast to New York, the Switzerland-based group transatlantic21 said in a statement.

Curbs on public satellite photos may be needed

The director of a little-known U.S. spy agency that analyzes imagery from the skies says that the increasing availability of commercial satellite photos may require the government to restrict distribution.

"If there was a situation where any imagery products were being used by adversaries to kill Americans, I think we should act," Vice Adm. Robert Murrett, director of the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency, said Tuesday in a rare interview at his office in Bethesda, Md.

Urinals With Views

I hate reading the ads that marketing companies post over some urinals. I would much rather have something else to look at -- like a skyline view. Here's a round-up of 13 of the world's best (urinal) views.
