Hemp car
was an alternative-fuel project car that utilized hemp biodiesel for fuel. Industrial hemp would be an economical fuel if hemp were legal to cultivate in the United States. Industrial hemp has no psychoactive properties and is not a drug. Hemp Car demonstrates the concept of hemp fuels on a national level and promotes the reformation of current law.

Cat with impressive toilet skills still can't flush
A white and tan Taiwanese cat made his successful television debut -- on the toilet. "Tiger" showed off his skills Wednesday, hopping on the front end of the toilet seat and carefully balancing himself as he did his business.

An unglamorous schoolgirl has become a feminist icon in Russia after she was entered for an online beauty pageant by a friend as a prank.
Alyona Pisklova - not her real surname - got at least 40,000 votes, making her the runaway favourite to represent Russia in June's Miss Universe contest.

Multi-coloured chicks for Easter
A farm in the northern US state of Alaska has given Easter egg decoration a whole new meaning.
Triple D Farm and Hatchery, in Palmer, injects the eggs with dye to produce multi-coloured baby chicks.

Nude statues get clothes -- and sales
A garden center's nude statues proved a bit immodest for some in this small town.
G & L Garden Center responded to complaints by covering up the classical-style statues with stylish, two-piece crimson velvet sarongs.
It turns out leaving a little to the imagination meant a lot more customers for the $99.95 ornaments. Six statues have sold in the past couple weeks alone, and the attempt at roadside modesty is stopping traffic.

The Zone, Chernobyl , Ukraine
There was a distinctive buzz around town this morning, and it had nothing to do with radiation. At least not directly. Things were bustling along Kirova Street. Men were huddled at the bus stop. Alongside it was the main kiosk, and it was doing brisk business. No more than a square metallic shack, it had a window opening large enough only to thrust out its stock of cigarettes and chocolate bars. A rickety old school bus heaved to a stop to pick up its load of workers and cranked down the main road until it disappeared from sight.

Newseum
The Freedom Forum has unveiled its design for a new, expanded Newseum next to the Washington, D.C., mall and its museums and monuments. The six-level, 215,000-square-foot interactive museum of news will contain three times as much exhibition space as the original facility in Arlington, Va., which closed in March 2002 to permit Newseum staff to focus exclusively on planning and developing the new museum, which is scheduled to open in late 2006.

Alphabetical zoo killer terrorises Brazil
Brazilian police are fighting a desperate battle against time to save the lives of thousands of animals threatened by a merciless serial killer.
Since 24 January, Sao Paulo zoo has lost three chimapanzees, three tapirs, a trio of camels and an elephant. All apparently succumbed to rat poison.

10-billion-trillion-trillion-carat
Space scientists revealed today that they have found the biggest known diamond in the universe.
It is 4,000 km across and weighs 2.27 million trillion trillion kg, which translates to about 10 billion trillion trillion carats, or a one followed by 34 zeros.

Farmer takes 7 years to build helicopter from scratch
With directions from the Internet and an old Russian truck motor, a Vietnamese farmer fulfilled his dream of making his own helicopter. The job took two friends, seven years and $30,000.
Now, military officials say he can't fly it, because he didn't get approval to build it, and they confiscated the makeshift copter.
