20-Ton Machine Mows Down Rumsfeld's Fence
A 20-ton piece of road machinery mowed down a fence and a couple of trees on property belonging to Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld after the brakes apparently slipped and the machine rolled away.
"It was a freak accident," said Michael Trujillo, director of public works for Taos County.

Machine Allows People to Inhale Alcohol
On Friday, bars in New York City will have a new device that has already made its debut in Europe and Asia. The name for it is AWOL which stands for Alcohol Without Liquid. The device allows people to inhale an alcoholic mist.

Fisherman suffocates in own net
AN experienced Sunshine Coast commercial fisherman, described by colleagues as "a legend", has been killed in a net accident which has stunned his family, friends and rescuers.
Noel Stevenson, of Buderim, who would have turned 46 next month, was found apparently suffocated in his nets after being accidentally wound on to the net spool along with his catch by his boat's hydraulic winch.

Best sandwich? 'Fat Darrell'
What do you call a sandwich made of chicken fingers, mozzarella sticks and french fries? Around here, it's called a Fat Darrell — and you also can call it a winning combo. The concoction was created early one morning in 1997 by Darrell Butler after a night of partying. Butler, a Rutgers University sophomore, conceived of the sandwich as a way to save money by combining his various cravings on one bun.

Oregon town goes on sale for $3 million
The small town of Otis, Oregon, is up for sale again as its octogenarian owner tries to find a buyer willing to part with $3 million for a restaurant, gas station, market, Pronto Pup corn dog shack, two homes and a barn.
Together with 190 acres along the scenic Salmon River, three miles from the scenic Oregon coast, the town's new owners will get the right to name the town, said Vivian Lematta, 83, who hung a "for sale" sign on her hometown for the second time in five years.

Great-grandmother has lucky escape from very unlucky mishap
Most people would think they were supremely unlucky to be struck by a falling meteorite while out in their back garden. Yet great-grandmother Pauline Aguss is just grateful the rock only grazed her arm.
The 76-year-old was hit by a swiftly-falling fragment of rock while hanging out washing in her garden in the county of Suffolk, the Sun newspaper reported in its Wednesday edition.

China's "hairboy" aspires to be rock star

He is an aspiring rock star, but Yu Zhenhuan's claim to fame for now is that he is the hairiest man in all of China.
Hair covers 96 percent of Yu's body. He may be surpassed only by a pair of Mexican brothers -- Victor "Larry" and Gabriel "Danny" Ramos Gomez -- listed in the Guinness Book of World Records as having 98 percent hair cover.
The 26-year-old Yu is candid and unembarrassed about a condition that has made him a phenomenon in China since he was born.

Arctic teenagers lasso polar bear
Four Greenland youths who lassoed a swimming polar bear so an impoverished hunter could kill it may have to forfeit the paws and claws he gave them as a trophy, Greenland's KNR radio has reported.
Police are investigating whether the youths broke the law when they caught the bear offshore near the south Greenland village of Saarloq on Sunday, KNR said on its Internet Web site on Wednesday.
Hunting rules in Greenland, which belongs to Denmark, prohibit the use of snares to catch polar bears.

Fish Dumped at Landmark in Pollution Protest
Environment activists piled thousands of dead fish at the foot of Berlin's biggest tourist attraction, the Brandenburg Gate, Tuesday in a demonstration against over-fishing and pollution in the North Sea.
"It's not the fish but the politics that really stink," said Bjoern Jettka, press officer for Germany's Greenpeace.

Baffled by ‘pull’ of farmer
Farmer Tan Kok Thai has found instant fame in Tanjung Rambutan with a body that can attract rocks, metal, plastic and rubber items, pieces of wood and even bananas.
He has left people in the town completely amazed by his mind-boggling feats – spectators often find it hard to believe their eyes when they see a hefty piece of rock sticking to Tan’s chest.
The 66-year-old has even demonstrated the ability to lift two bicycles tied to a chopper attached to his body.

There's a mouse in my soup
Heinz is considering legal action after a woman claimed she found a dead mouse inside a can of soup.
Therese Oulad, 49, claims the mouse was floating on top of her Cream of Tomato soup.
She told the Sun: "I almost threw up - it was horrific. I thought I was hallucinating when I saw this black creature standing up in my lunch."

Turkmen leader orders ice palace
President Niyazov of Turkmenistan has ordered the construction of a palace made of ice in the heart of his desert country, one of the hottest on earth.
It is the latest in a series of colossal building projects instigated by the all-powerful president that seem to defy the country's environment.
"Let us build a palace of ice," said President Niyazov, "big and grand enough for 1,000 people."
