Speziell für Webserver und VPN-Gateways ist das neue Pentium-4-Mainboard Abit SI-1Ns gedacht, das einen speziellen Krypto-Prozessor zur Ver- und Entschlüsselung des Netzwerkverkehrs mitbringt.
Dieser Nitrox Lite CN1005 von Cavium Networks hat ein PCI-Interface und soll AES-, 3DES- oder SHA1-verschlüsselte IPsec-Pakete mit einer Geschwindigkeit von bis zu 400 MBit pro Sekunde verarbeiten. Genauso schnell sollen SSL-Verbindungen mit RC4-/MD5-Schlüsseln laufen; außerdem schafft der Nitrox Lite CN1005 angeblich 3500 RSA-Operationen pro Sekunde (1024 Bit Länge).

Opera schnüffelt im Dateisystem
Die israelische Sicherheitsfirma Greymagic warnt vor einer Reihe von schwerwiegenden Sicherheitslücken im Web-Browser Opera 7 für Windows, den der gleichnamige Hersteller vor einer Woche herausgebracht hat.
Das gravierendste Probleme basiert auf einer Schwäche in Operas JavaScript-Sicherheitsmodell. Um Missbrauch zu vermeiden, verhindern andere aktuelle Browser wie Mozilla oder der Internet Explorer, dass ein HTML-Dokument aus einer Domain auf Inhalte von Web-Seiten einer anderen Domain zugreifen kann.

Chatnetzwerk DALnet schickt Tauscher in die IRC-Wüste
Eines der ältesten Chatnetzwerke in den Weiten des Internet Relay Chats (IRC), das DALnet, will seine Nutzerbedingungen zum 1. März 2003 grundlegend ändern. Wie der Betreiber mitteilt, dürfen dann keine Channels mehr aktiv sein, die ausschließlich zum Tausch von Dateien dienen. Lediglich Chatter sind auch weiterhin willkommen.

DALnet channels for chat, not files
DALnet will be enforcing a change to its Acceptable Use Policy (www.dal.net) which will prohibit "Using a channel for the primary purpose of facilitating the transfer of files".
DALnet is by its very nature a Chat Network. Its purpose is for people around the world to join together in channels and converse about subjects of their choosing. New technologies have sprung forth since the birth of DALnet back in 1994. Programs such as Kazaa and Napster have generated a desire for Internet users to freely transfer files. They have also generated a large amount of controversy regarding the legality of doing so. DALnet is not, nor does it wish to be thought of as, a file sharing network.

XWEBS Schüler entwickelt Hi-Speed-Webbrowser
Das programmtechnische Wunderwerk parallelisiert Aufgaben und soll so soll fünf Mal schneller als herkömmliche Browser-Programme sein.
Ein 16-jähriger Schüler aus einer irischen Kleinstadt in der Nähe von Dublin entwickelte in zweijähriger Heimarbeit einen Webbrowser, der um bis zu 500% schneller als aktuelle Software arbeiten soll – dies berichtet die Online-Ausgabe des Internet-Magazins Wired unter Berufung auf Aussagen von Fachleuten.

Well, a single day after my post that DALnet remains silent on my requests for some information, Curve, admin of tiscali.dal.net and editor of the DALnet ezine replied me with a long (and very positive) responce which I will repost in full.
It's no secret that DALnet has suffered massive attacks recently, far greater than anything we've seen before. We've been ravaged by DDoS attacksin the gbps range, attacks which are not just crippling our IRC servers, but causing disruption to the providers who host those servers. Given that fact, and the tendency for gossip in these situations, I know that some people are saying 'DALnet is dead'.
Well it's not.

In der Testphase sind an Bord der Boing fünf Access Points der Cisco Aironet 350 Serie installiert, außerdem ein Cisco 3640 Router und neun Cisco Catalyst 3548 XL Switches. Die Komponenten sind laut dem Netzwerker Cisco modifizierte Standardgeräte, die von Lufthansa Technik auf ihre Flugtauglichkeit überprüft und nach den gültigen Luftfahrtregularien zertifiziert wurden. Sie unterstützen drahtlose Verbindungen nach dem 802.11b-Standard. Zusätzlich stehe eine Ethernet-Verbindung am Platz zur Verfügung.

Lufthansa, Boeing to offer broadband service on flights
The German airline said that the service – called Lufthansa Flynet – will be offered on an inaugural flight tomorrow from Frankfurt to Dulles airport in Washington DC.
The demonstration will last for around three months on this particular route. Lufthansa said that passengers will be able to surf the web from laptop computers and send and receive emails in flight.

I regret we are unable to offer you any help. Certain individuals have decided that we should no longer be able to operate as an IRC network and are using Denial of Service attacks to ensure that we do not. Despite our best efforts and those of our hosts, DALnet is at this time totally unreachable and will most likely remain that way until whoever is responsible for the attacks decide they've done enough damage.

Internet browser that quadruples surf speed wins Irish science prize
A computer browser that is said to least quadruple surfing speeds on the Internet has won the top prize at an Irish exhibition for young scientists, it was announced on Saturday.
Adnan Osmani, 16, a student at Saint Finian's College in Mullingar, central Ireland spent 18 months writing 780,000 lines of computer code to develop the browser. Known as "XWEBS", the system works with an ordinary Internet connection using a 56K modem on a normal telephone line.
