In the ongoing battle over pop-up advertising, marketers are gaining a new weapon to fight back against the increasing use of pop-up ad blockers. Falk eSolutions AG, a German-based vendor of online ad delivery systems, plans to offer publishers and marketers a way to thwart software that blocks pop-up and pop-under ads by automatically converting them into other forms of online ads when such software is detected.

Yahoo redesigns search engine
Yahoo today is unveiling the most extensive redesign of its search engine features yet as it steps up competition with Internet search leader Google.
At the core of the redesign, which includes more streamlined results and text-based advertising, is a desire to build search traffic and draw greater revenue from paid search, which Yahoo estimates could account for nearly 20 percent of its 2003 revenue.
``Paid search is the new gold,'' said Gary Stein, a marketing and advertising analyst for Jupiter Resesarch.

Opera turns Microsoft site into Muppet language
Norwegian software group Opera took a swipe at Microsoft on Friday by issuing an Internet browser that converts text on Microsoft's Web site into the nonsense language of a popular television puppet.
When Opera users visit Microsoft's MSN site with the new browser, the text displayed there appears to them in a language mimicking that of the Swedish chef on the popular Muppet Show, Opera said in a statement.
"This joke is for real," Opera's chief technology officer Haakon Wium Lie told Reuters.
