Having a whale of a time: The 20ft sea giant who couldn't resist smiling for the camera


These remarkable 'mugshots' of a group of pilot whales were snapped last week in the clear blue waters of the Straits Of Gibraltar, the gateway to the Mediterranean sea.

After several loud 'barks' this whale stopped to gaze at its own reflection in the lens.

Monkeys use trees to catapault themselves out of Japanese laboratory


A group of 15 monkeys at Kyoto University's primate research institute in Aichi Prefecture, which are the focus of a string of high-profile scientific studies, escaped from their forest home which is encased by a 17ft high electric fence.

The monkeys made their bid for freedom by using tree branches to fling themselves one by one over the high voltage electric fence located nearly three metres away.

A survey of 200 sites in 20 countries around the world has found that bisphenol A, a synthetic compound that mimics estrogen and is linked to developmental disorders, is ubiquitous in Earth’s oceans.

Bisphenol A, or BPA, is found mostly in shatter-proof plastics and epoxy resins. Most people have trace amounts in their bodies, likely absorbed from food containers. Its hormone-mimicking properties make it a potent endocrine system disruptor.

Ein rabiates Wildschwein hat im westdeutschen Hagen ein Kinderzimmer verwüstet. Wie die Polizei berichtete, war das Tier am Sonntag durch ein Fenster eingebrochen. Das Schwein hatte dafür sogar einen Metallriegel aufgebrochen.
