Betrunkene Nachbarn, aggressive Hornissen und ein Gips am Bein sind die Ursachen für den Tod einer 60-jährigen Frau. Als die gereizten Insekten attackierten, konnte eine Frau nicht schnell genug fliehen.

Solar groupies head for eclipse of midnight sun

More than 100 well-heeled tourists are due to set sail today in a former Soviet icebreaker for Antarctica, hoping to be among the few to witness a rare total solar eclipse of a midnight sun. Kapitan Khlebnikov was due to sail from Port Elizabeth, South Africa, with the cheapest fare at $US18,995 per head or a corner suite at $US35,995.

World's largest iceberg splits in two
The world's largest iceberg in the Antarctic is reported to have split in two after being pummelled by a powerful storm.
The Antarctic Sun, a weekly publication of the US Antarctic program, says the 11,000 square kilometre iceberg known as B-15 broke up last month.

Belgian man saves fish with kiss of life
A former ambulance driver has put his first aid skills to good use at a weekend birthday party by reviving one of his pond fish with mouth-to-mouth resuscitation, a local newspaper says.
And Leo Van Aert is so happy about having saved the life of his cherished koi that he wants to name it after one of his grandchildren, the Gazet Van Antwerpen said on Tuesday.

Dead Sea Drying Up, Israeli Study Warns
The Dead Sea gets its name from its heavy salt content, because no aquatic creatures can live in it. Now there's a new "death threat" the Dead Sea is drying up and disappearing.
An Israeli TV reporter, illustrating the government report, stood on a spot where, just 20 years ago, water met land. Now that point is 2,000 feet of parched ground away, he said, as the sea gradually recedes.

American gourmets pay 35,000 dollars for single Italian truffle
A single Tuscan truffle weighing in at 410 grammes (14.35 ounces) was sold this weekend near Florence for 35,000 dollars (30,000 euros), or more than six times its weight in gold, the event's organisers said.

Zwei Meter Umfang für tausende Tiere
Ein Tierschützer in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern hat ein Wespennest mit einem rekordverdächtigen Umfang von fast zwei Metern gefunden. Eigentlich wollte der Mann nur seinen Nachbarn helfen, doch plötzlich flogen ihm tausende von Wespen um die Ohren.

World's 'oldest' rice found
Scientists have found the oldest known domesticated rice. The handful of 15,000-year-old burnt grains was discovered by archaeologists in Korea.
Their age challenges the accepted view that rice cultivation originated in China about 12,000 years ago.

Purple frog delights scientists
It has to be one of the strangest looking frogs ever discovered. The chubby, seven-centimetre-long, purple amphibian with a pointy snout was found hopping around in the Western Ghats, a range of hills in western India.

It's raining frogs in Connecticut
Hurricane Isabel brought unholy high winds and lashing rain to the East Coast. It also dumped something almost biblical on Connecticut.
Primo D'Agata was startled by what he thought was hail smacking on his porch Sept. 19 as the remnants of Isabel moved through the state. But when he went outside to investigate, D'Agata discovered tiny, gelatinous eggs with dark spots in the middle.
It had apparently been raining frogs.

Large Ape-Like Animal Seen In Northwest Arkansas
A large ape-like animal has been seen over the last several days in and around Decatur. Police Chief Coy Hendrix says he received two calls last week and another call Monday from people reporting that they have seen the animal.

Lost Walrus wallows in "warmth"
The tropical paradise of Oslo Norway
A giant walrus has been delighting residents of the Norwegian capital during a rare visit as he lolls around on a sandy beach that is, for him, the sunny south.
Experts say the tusked walrus, possibly a young male, is more accustomed to the harsh, wintry climate of the Norwegian Arctic around the Svalbard archipelago, some 1,275 miles north of Oslo.
