Iceberg the size of Delaware to break off from Antarctica
A large sheet of ice is set to break away from Antarctica and scientists say it will be one of the largest breaks of its kind recorded. Larsen C -- a sprawling sheet of ice in western Antarctica -- is currently attached to its parent shelf by 20 kilometers (12.4 miles) of ice, according to UK-based research team Project MIDAS. Once it splits, the crack will produce an iceberg around 5,000 square kilometers (1,930 square miles) -- approximately the size of the state of Delaware.

Er hat den Mund zu voll genommen: An einem Strand in Australien ist ein Weißer Hai verendet. Er hat sich offenbar an einem Seelöwen verschluckt.
Ein Video, das an einem Strand an der Westküste Australiens entstanden sein soll, zeigt Gruseliges. Ein Weißer Hai nähert sich der Küste, zappelt immer stärker. Schließlich liegt er tot am Strand. Der Hai habe sich an einem Seelöwen verschluckt und sei verendet, meldet die Fischereibehörde von Westaustralien. Der Vorfall habe sich Anfang der Woche ereignet.

Island of debris the size of TEXAS from 2011 Japanese tsunami is headed straight for the U.S.
A floating island of debris the size of Texas has been crossing the vast Pacific Ocean to the western shores of the Americas since a devastating tsunami inundated Japan in 2011, says a new study.
Five million tons of wreckage - the remains of homes, boats, and other remnants of shattered lives in eastern Japan - were swallowed by the ocean that day in March, and more than one million tons of flotsam continues to head towards the west coast of the US.
While the first documented debris from the tragedy has already been found in California, scientists fear these new findings mean there could be a lot more to come and it might arrive all at once.

Underwater Sonar Linked To Whale Deaths
A group of scientists have confirmed a link between the sonar, used by Exxon Mobil to map the ocean floor for oil, and the death of melon-headed whales. From the article: 'A spokesman for ExxonMobil said the company disagrees with the findings. "ExxonMobil believes the panel's finding about the multi-beam echo sounder is unjustified due to the lack of certainty of information and observations recorded during the response efforts in 2008," spokesman Patrick McGinn told AFP in an email. He added that observers employed by the Madagascar government and the oil giant "were on board the vessel and did not observe any whales in the area.
