Legendary jazz and blues singer Nina Simone has died at the age of 70 at her home in southern France, her agent has announced.

Simone was one of the last divas of jazz and was considered one of the finest songwriters and musicians of her day.

U.S. Backs RIAA in ISP Fight


The Bush administration is siding with the recording industry in its court fight to force Internet providers to disclose the identities of people who are illegally trading songs over the Web.

A Justice Department brief, filed Friday in U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, supports the effort by the Recording Industry Association of America to force Verizon Communications to identify a subscriber suspected of offering more than 600 songs from well-known artists.

Billionaire creating science fiction 'experience'


Billionaire Paul Allen, one of the world's richest men, plans to remodel a wing of his Seattle rock 'n' roll shrine, the Experience Music Project, as the Science Fiction Experience.

Allen, a self-described science fiction buff, said the 13,900-square-foot museum is expected to cost nearly $20 million and is to open in summer 2004. It will be added on to the current museum, which is a futuristic, freeform metal structure.

Loco-Motion singer dies


The singer Little Eva, best known for recording The Loco-Motion as a teenager in the 1960s, has died of cancer aged 59.

She was working as a babysitter for songwriters Carole King and Gerry Goffin in 1962 when they asked her to record a song they had written called The Loco-Motion.

The song became a hit for Little Eva that year and again for Grand Funk Railroad in 1974.

Gunmen open fire on Snoop Dogg


There's been another case of violence surrounding rap star Snoop Dogg.

Police in Los Angeles say three gunmen opened fire on a convoy of cars, one of which was carrying the musician. He wasn't hurt but one of his bodyguards -- an off-duty police officer -- was hit and wounded.
