The Swiss do it, cowboys do it, even educated rappers do it. Let's all do it, let's yodel-ay-ee-ooo.
From opera to hip-hop, there's barely a musical genre that hasn't turned to yodelling now and then. So why can't yodellers get a little more respect?

John Lennon's handwritten lyrics to the song "Nowhere Man" were sold for $455,000 -- more than four times the expected price -- at an entertainment memorabilia sale at Christie's on Tuesday.

U2's One named 'greatest record'
Music experts have named U2's love song One as the greatest song ever recorded.
The song was the group's only entry in the top 100 of Q magazine's poll to find the favourite 1001 tracks.
Runner-up was Aretha Franklin's I Say a Little Prayer, written by Bacharach and David, and Nirvana's Smells Like Teen Spirit was third.

Arrest Warrant Issued For Jackson
A television report says a sexual abuse allegation is the reason for a search of Michael Jackson's Neverland Ranch. Court TV cites unidentified sources as saying the search warrant for Jackson's property is linked to an allegation made by a 12 or 13-year-old boy. However, authorities aren't confirming that.

Michael Jackson's ranch searched
Police are conducting a search of pop star Michael Jackson's Neverland ranch in California.
Officers used a warrant to enter the 45-year-old singer's home in the Santa Ynez Valley, near Santa Barbara.
No reason has been given for the search at the self-styled King of Pop's ranch, which houses a collection of theme-park style rides, a zoo and a mini railway.

Musikindustrie setzt auf "Qualität statt Quantität"
Mit einer neuen Idee versucht die Musikindustrie den ständig sinkenden Absatz von Musik-CDs nun anzukurbeln: Die CDs sollen künftig weniger Songs beinhalten. Damit will man das Interesse der Konsumenten, die sich immer öfter auf digitalem Weg mit Musik versorgen, am Kauf ganzer Alben wieder beleben.

James Brown to Get Statue in Hometown
The city of Augusta feels so good about James Brown that it plans to construct a statue of the Godfather of Soul downtown and rename a music festival in his honor. Brown, 70, grew up in Augusta and has had offices and a radio station in the city.

Der Entertainer James Last wird 75 und tourt. Seine Musik hat es sogar in Quentin Tarantinos neuen Film geschafft.
Die Kompositionen des Orchesterleiters James Last sind Geschmackssache, aber legendär. Und das nicht erst seitdem Easy Listening für kurz Zeit zum Trend erklärt wurde.

Scorpions besiegen Scorpions
Den Hannover Scorpions weht ein eisiger «Wind of Change» ins Gesicht. Denn der Hockey-Club wurde vom Landesgericht Braunschweig dazu verknurrt, Rockmusiker Klaus Meine und seine «Scorpions»-Kollegen am Verkauf der Fanartikel zu beteiligen. Ausserdem muss der Verein die Umsatzzahlen der Jahre 1996 bis 1998 offen legen.

Neuer Musikriese vor Gründung
Die Konzerne Sony und Bertelsmann haben sich einem Zeitungsbericht zufolge über die Bündelung ihrer Musiksparten BMG und Sony Music geeinigt.
Wie die "New York Post" vorab meldete, wollen die beiden Konzerne ihren Plan, ein Gemeinschaftsunternehmen zu gründen, noch heute bekannt geben.
Sowohl BMG-Chef Rolf Schmidt-Holtz als auch Sony-Music-Chairman Andrew Lack würden in der neuen Gesellschaft Führungspositionen einnehmen, hieß es in dem Bericht.

Musik-Downloads schlagen CD-Singles
Während der Online-Musikverkauf in Österreich noch in den Kinderschuhen steckt, kaufen Musikfans in den USA inzwischen fast doppelt so viele einzelne Songs über das Internet wie CD-Singles im Handel. Das berichtet das "Billboard Magazine".
Seit Juni wurden demnach 7,7 Millionen Musiktitel bei Online-Musikportalen erworben, im Gegensatz dazu gingen nur vier Millionen CD-Singles über den Ladentisch.

Charts nonstop, totgedudelt
Bundesweit tönen täglich die etwa 40 gleichen Titel aus dem Radio. Das, glaubt die Aktion Rotationsverbot, sei ein Grund für die Krise der Musikindustrie - und eine Qual für die Hörer. Sie fordert die "Radioquote" - und Applaus kommt sogar von Radioproduzenten und Plattenbossen.
