A Terrible Purchase Accident

Tomorrow is the second Friday of my now almost world-famous 52 albums or burn!-project. About half an hour ago, I compiled a list of all the recommendations I've received, minus a few I already knew or was unable to find any information on. The grand total now is 81 artists or bands, which is a bad thing since there are only 52 Fridays in a year. So the project might get pushed far into 2005. I plan to put the list online for you to glare at, but I'm not quite sure when that'll happen, maybe this weekend. Depends a on how much is happening in Real LifeTM.

Wouldn't Let Him Be

George Harrison was forced to autograph a guitar on his deathbed for his Staten Island cancer doctor - and even had to endure an impromptu concert by the physician's 12-year-old son, a new bombshell lawsuit charges. When the ailing Beatle told Dr. Gilbert Lederman he didn't believe he could even remember how to spell his world-famous name, the doctor allegedly grabbed his hand and guided the musician, letter by letter, through the signature.

Top Albums of 2003 by: Veronica Biancalana

  1. Chocolate Factory, R Kelly Your Music has to be pretty good when you can make people forget that you're accused of making child porn. R. Kelly's Chocolate Factory was more than good - it was excellent. Though he had his typical bump and grind grooves the album's heart consisted of love ballads and gritty soul grooves, scorchers that harkened back to an 80's vibe. Suprisingly romantic, even tender sometimes, it was deliciously satisifying.

  2. Speakerboxxx, The Love Below, Outkast Just when you thought Outkast couldn't get any more out there, they spring this on you - two deliciously warped CDs instead of the usual one. Andre 3000 and Big Boi split up, recorded their own solo discs and slapped them together as a double CD - Big Boi's psychedelic rap on one, and Andre's jazzy existentialist musings on the other. At times bizarre, also odd but always entertaining.

  3. Dangerously In Love, Beyonce After dominating Destiny's Child for years, we didn't think there was anything new Beyonce could offer on her solo debut. But her CD showed a sexier, edgier side that only broadened her base from hip-hop to pop, and she provided us with the year's best summer anthem with the catchy Crazy in Love. Of course being the squeeze of Jay-Z has been the shizzznet fo shizzle. I just took a big juicy bite of my J for that one, already playa.

  4. Salt, Lizz Wright With a rich sultry voice reminiscent of Cassandra Wilson or Oleta Adams this young singer emerged as one of the most refreshing new voices in jazz with her elegant intoxicating debut.

  5. The Diary of Alicia Keyes, Alicia Keyes
One of my personal favorites but only a few tunes worth her time just like some of the men in our lives. A very young and old soul to be sure. But alas another young artrist who should stay in the studio as with so many artists now a days. The girl shows class and a certain style that has staying power.

  6. Chicken & Beer, Ludacris Sure 50 Cent got all the hype this year and Jay-Z's retirement disc, "The Black Album" got all the praise and had a few good cuts thanks to Pharrell and great producers in the studio. When it comes to fun nobody had anything on Ludacris and his decadent Chicken & Beer. Sure it was crude rude and plain silly but nobody can turn a phrase quite like Luda can, and he had plenty of unreapeatable gems on this album, a guilty pleasure.

  7. I have never taken Murphy Lee, Puffy, Nelly, Chingy, Missy, all end in Y cute, huh - and one bazillion rappers seriously when it comes to music (their videos are so totally unnecessary) so I won't now. I"ve uped my standards so UP yours. Being Black by popular demand doesn't suck.
