Soulseek Records
Soulseek Records is an offshoot of Soulseek, a file-sharing application dedicated predominantly to the free trade of electronic music and the promotion of unsigned artists. Listeners can use Soulseek to learn about and sample new musicians they would be unlikely to encounter elsewhere, and artists can utilize the wide user base as an efficient means of distributing their work, getting feedback, and gaining fans. Based upon this community theory, Soulseek Records is a democratic label, with all decisions made by a dedicated group of users who confer via message board, rather than by an committee of businessmen or a CEO.
Soulseek Records will prove that music sharing is not the evil demon that many believe it to be, but rather that it can actually be the foundation for a positive new relationship between artists, labels, and listeners.

Im vergangenen Jahr erschienen ausgewählte Zitate des US-Verteidigungsminister Donald Rumsfeld als Gedichtband, und vor Kurzem hat der Komponist, Pianist, Satiriker und Gründer des Plattenlabels Stuffed Penguin Music, Bryant Kong, einige der eindrucksvollsten verbalen Leerläufe des mächtigen Mannes vertont und daraus eine CD gemacht.

Streit um Phonoline eskaliert
Der Eiertanz um die halb verhinderte Phonoline-Eröffnungszeremonie mit Kanzler Gerhard Schröder eskaliert zum offenen Konflikt. Symbolträchtig sagte Phonoverbands-Chef Gerd Gebhardt einen geplanten Runden Tisch ab. Öffentlich stellt er in Frage, ob "die Gema noch alle ihre Mitglieder repräsentiert".

Die verschollenen Juwelen der Pop-Geschichte
Ohne sie wäre die Popgeschichte vermutlich nur halb so spannend: legendäre verschollene Platten, die aufgenommen wurden (oder auch nicht), aber nie regulär erschienen sind.
Die "Basement Tapes" von Bob Dylan gehören dazu ebenso wie das unvollendete Meisterwerk "Smile" von Brian Wilson, das der Beach-Boys-Chef nach fast 40 Jahren jetzt endlich fertigstellen will.
So unterschiedlich diese "lost albums" auch sind, ihnen allen wird eines nachgesagt: Wenn sie erschienen wären, würde die Popmusik heute ganz anders klingen.

Schallplattenspieler erfreuen sich bei DJs und HiFi-Fans weiterhin großer Beliebtheit - der Rest der Welt zieht heute CDs vor. Doch was tun mit den schönen alten Platten? Versilbern heißt die Devise: Per Software wird aus Vinyl eine CD - und die alte Platte gewinnt sogar an Qualität.

Die Hinrichtung des Tonträgers
Ohne das Netz wäre die neue Platte der Einstürzenden Neubauten nicht entstanden. Die Netzeitung sprach mit Blixa Bargeld über Intimität und Ideen, die keinen Wert haben.

Sonic Youth's "silence" only 99 cents LOL
Apple Computer's iTunes Music Store, where users download songs for 99 cents, was refusing to sell the track called "Silence," which is 63-seconds of dead air, on its own. Users could download it only by buying the entire 1995 album called "The Whitey Album," which was released under the name Ciccone Youth, a side project of the alternative rock band.

Air guitar star admits second drink-drive offence in 6 weeks
The Hastings man judged the world's second-best air guitarist yesterday admitted drink-driving twice in six weeks.
Toby Wiremu Pureku Peneha pleaded guilty in Napier District Court to two charges of driving with an excess blood alcohol level after an arrest warrant was issued last month.
