An Oral History of Electronic Music in East Germany
In conjunction with RBMA Radio’s September pop-up station in Berlin, this month we’re taking a deep dive into German music history. Today, we present the English translation of an article that first appeared in Groove. A few years ago Florian Sievers compiled Mandarinen Träume: Electronic Escapes from the Deutsche Demokraktische Republik 1981-1989 for the Permanent Vacation label. Upon its release, he tracked down the artists responsible for an oral history of electronic music in East Germany before the Wall fell.

Elvis Costello & the Roots – Wise Up Ghost: Exclusive album stream
Fans of pop trivia will know that Elvis Costello's first-ever claim to fame was that he contributed backing vocals to Secret Lemonade Drinker, the song his dad, Ross MacManus, performed for an R White's Lemonade TV advert in the 70s. Several decades later, ?uestlove of the Roots used this knowledge to woo Costello – covering the song when the latter walked on stage as a guest on the Jimmy Fallon show on US TV, where the group are installed as the in-house band.

Legendärer Konzertveranstalter: Fritz Rau ist tot
Mick Jagger nannte ihn den "Godfather", er holte Stars des Jazz und Rock nach Deutschland: Fritz Rau war von den Sechzigern bis in die Achtziger der wichtigste Konzertveranstalter des Landes. Nun ist er mit 83 Jahren gestorben.

Prince Starts Using Twitter
Prince, the artist formerly known as distrustful of the internet, has come to the dark side. As of last night, he's now an active user of that thing called Twitter, posting messages from the account of his group 3rd Eye Girl. His approach thus far is that of any self-respecting Twitter user (just kidding, no such thing): part self-promotional, part funny. My favorite is, "1st selfie #selfie" which just links to a photo of smoke. Now we just need to get Jennifer Lawrence signed up for this thing.

R.I.P. JJ Cale
Der Welthit "Cocaine" stammt von ihm und viele bekannte Songs mehr, mit denen aber andere, berühmtere Musiker Erfolge feierten: Eric Clapton, Carlos Santana, Johnny Cash. Jetzt ist der US-amerikanische Sänger und Songwriter J.J. Cale mit 74 Jahren gestorben.
