Excellent MP3s of '60s and '70s "porn-style" music
Born in Baden in 1941, Klaus Harmony was the foremost German composer of erotik film scores in the 1970’s, crafting music for over nine classic movies in just thirteen years. In collaboration with filmmaker and long time friend, Friedrich Wohlfäht, he expanded and thrust the genre beyond its known limits.

Mashin' the Classicks
You know a particular style of music has run it's course when someone uses it as the template to re-imagine old classical music workhorses (see "A Fifth of Beethoven"). Consider this album by Valjean (Johns), a classically-trained pianist probably best-known for performing the theme to the TV show "Ben Casey". Crazy, daddy-o, crazy.

Agreement on Burial of James Brown
The six adult children of singer James Brown have agreed with his partner, Tomi Rae Hynie, on where the entertainer will be buried, an attorney for the woman said Tuesday.
Hynie's attorney, Robert Rosen, said the resting place is being kept confidential at the request of Brown's children. Rosen said the burial may take place in the "next few days." An attorney for Brown's children would not discuss specifics of any burial plans, but he said an agreement was being worked out.
Brown died Christmas Day at age 73. His body is being kept in a confidential location, said Charles Reid, manager of the C.A. Reid Funeral Home in Augusta, Ga., which handled Brown's funeral.
He said he checked on Brown on Tuesday, opening the gold casket to view the body.

Why I Miss Frank Zappa
Celebrities and artists defending the First Amendment is nothing new. After all, they have the most to lose if speech and artistic expression are censored. But when I hear most celebs defend the First Amendment these days, it just makes me cringe. They typically come off sounding like complete morons.
That's why I miss Frank Zappa so much. When he was with us, he was one of the most passionate and articulate defenders of freedom of speech--not just in the entertainment industry--but in all of America. And this man knew his history. He understood why the First Amendment was so important to America's founding and why it remains one of the cornerstones upon which all other human liberties rest.

Video explains the world's most important 6-sec drum loop
This fascinating, brilliant 20-minute video narrates the history of the "Amen Break," a six-second drum sample from the b-side of a chart-topping single from 1969. This sample was used extensively in early hiphop and sample-based music, and became the basis for drum-and-bass and jungle music -- a six-second clip that spawned several entire subcultures. Nate Harrison's 2004 video is a meditation on the ownership of culture, the nature of art and creativity, and the history of a remarkable music clip.

It Was 40 Years Ago Today: 'Strawberry Fields Forever' by The Beatles
Today it's been exactly forty years since 'Strawberry Fields Forever', the most adventurous single of The Beatles, written by John Lennon (and also being my own personal favourite in the band's all recorded works), was published in the UK (in America it came out a couple of days later, 17 February 1967).
