Dick Dale speaks the truth

Dick Dale gives some his advice re how to stick it to the man (the record label consortium). Basically, he says don't bother signing a contract, make your own CDs, sell 'em at shows, build your own following and keep your own money instead of owing it to Big Daddy Coal Record label.

Hip-hop officially died last night

at the White House Radio and Television Correspondant’s Association Dinner, and it was not pretty.

Karl Rove, the powerful political strategist known as "Bush's Brain," admits he's a "practicing philatelist" before he breaks it down with the improv maestros from Who's Line is it Anyway? at a banquet in Washington.

The End of the Revolution MP3

Old school Prince die hards like me get a bit nostalgic when thinking back to the Revolution days. There was a certain dynamic and chemistry with the lineup - Prince, Bobby Z. on drums, Matt Fink on synth, Lisa Coleman on keys, Wendy Melvoin on guitar, and Brown Mark on bass - that in my opinion hasn’t been matched since.

Björk's Real Debut MP3

In 1993, Icelandic singer Björk Guðmundsdóttir, better known just as Björk, recorded her album Debut, which kicked of her solo career after the breakup of The Sugarcubes. What few people know (OK, maybe not quite so few, as it is mentioned in the Wikipedia article and it even got a bad review on AMG) is that Björk's real debut came out 16 years earlier, a self-titled album released only in Iceland, at a time when she was 12 years old.

De La Soul Video Presskit

Here's a great video presskit for De La Soul's Three Feet High and Rising LP, circa 1989. Too bad this phenom didn't catch on with more bands, we might've saved a cool billion on glossy folders and Kinko's fees.
