Top dollar for Dead's skeletons
Grateful fans bid on road manager's memorabilia to tune of $1.1 million. Grateful Dead fans, who have a tough time letting go, were grateful for the chance to shell out big bucks Tuesday in San Francisco for what less enlightened people would call, well, junk.
It wasn't junk, said fans of the defunct rock group. Not hardly.
The stuff on the auction block might look like empty speaker boxes, corroded guitar strings and funky old steamer trunks, but it constituted the genuine and authentic castoffs of the great Jerry Garcia.
So the bidding started high, and it went higher.
One of the empty speaker boxes sold for $1,680. Other empty boxes sold for $1,200 and $900. In the 1970s, they had held speakers in the band's enormous Wall of Sound concert loudspeaker system, but the speakers themselves were long gone.

Life, Death and Rock & Roll
LOSING JERRY follows the personal journeys of three close friends from their happy-go-lucky, following The Grateful Dead, teenage party days to that horrible day of Jerry Garcia’s death, 15 years later. In between, the friends are forced to come to terms with the sometimes unkind reality of growing up. And then, when the friendships have been pushed to their ultimate limits, that painful phone call comes. Jerry Garcia’s death serves as both a catalyst and a right of passage; forcing the friends to face that which they fear and desire most. And through it all, the joy of The Grateful Dead's music and what it has meant carries them through.

Happy Mondays man refused US visa
Happy Mondays will perform at Coachella this weekend, but without Bez who was refused a visa to enter the US. The dancer will not be present for the band's first US performance in 15 years, set to take place on Sunday (April 29).
A statement was this morning release saying:
"Due to tightening immigration and working visa legislation, Bez was not, unfortunately, able to secure a visa to perform at Coachella this weekend. Happy Mondays apologies to all their US fans that they will not, on this occasion, be able to enjoy the spectacle of Bez shaking his stuff for them at Coachella."

Horses to be drugged for Stones gig
A plan to sedate more than 300 horses stabled at Belgrade's racecourse to keep them calm during a Rolling Stones concert there has enraged Serb animal lovers who are lobbying to have the gig moved to another venue.
The concert is expected to draw more than 100,000 people to the Hippodrome, Belgrade's largest fenced space. The horses will be only a few metres from the stage.

Kitten Does Electro 101; Where are the Synth Pooches?
Pictures of cats and blogging are a cliche — but that cliche happens to be true. And it extends down the long tail (ahem, so to speak) to our little niches. Yes, there really is a blog dedicated to pictures of cats and synths. Not weirded out yet? Via Matrixsynth earlier this month (and evidently not an April Fool’s joke), someone has made a tatoo. Very … uh, meta.

Charles Mingus Cat Toilet Training Program
First, you must train your cat to use a home-made cardboard litter box, if you have not already done so. (If your box does not have a one-piece bottom, add a cardboard that fits inside, so you have a false bottom that is smooth and strong. This way the box will not become soggy and fall out at the bottom. The grocery store will have extra flat cardboards which you can cut down to fit exactly inside your box.)

KONONO N°1
KONONO N°1 was founded over 25 years ago by Mingiedi, a virtuoso of the likembé (a traditional instrument sometimes called "sanza" or "thumb piano", consisting of metal rods attached to a resonator). The band's line-up includes three electric likembés (bass, medium and treble), equipped with hand-made microphones built from magnets salvaged from old car parts, and plugged into amplifiers.

Björk & Timby
Björk's first single from Volta, "Earth Intruders," produced by Timbaland with additional percussion by Konono Nr. 1, is apparently her militant response to our crappy president and kinda boring.

Pink Polka, A Pink Floyd Polka Band
Lynn Marie said it best and we hold the same philosophy(in the plural): “Polka got us to the party, but now we want to get out there and start making music with and for people who think and create beyond the safety net of pigeonholing… Creatively, this experience is going to be the best thing that ever happened to us, and we're excited to be moving on to bigger and better things in our career.”
