World's largest record collection worth $50 Million; can't sell for $3 Million
The library of congress did a study on the merchandise that i have in my collection, and from 48 and 66, only 17% of that is available to the public on CD, now you think about that for a second that means 83% of the music that i have on those shelves you cant buy at any price anywhere.
If you're looking for a sign that we live in a digital world that cares not for the physical manifestations of our analogue past, you need only look at Paul Mawhinney's record collection. At over 3 million records, it's the largest in the world. He's trying to sell it due to his advancing age and health problems. Unfortunately, as he puts it, "no one gives a damn."

Hawaii 70s-80s Punk Museum Back in the late '70s and early '80s, Honolulu had a small but close-knit punk scene. Poi Dog Pondering started out in Hawaii before relocating to Austin, then to Chicago.

a labor of love project listing punk/new wave/ndw records & cassettes of the original punk era in austria, germany and switzerland (incl. a 7" cover ft. johnny2000 way back then, pic in the comments)
dedicated to my good friend Panza, who was the spirit of the scene (he'll just be releasing a double lp of new found tracks from 'die gute alte zeit'=the title of his compilation, some tracks will come from my vaults ...)

Neue U2-Songs auf Umwegen ins Internet gelangt
Seit einigen Tagen können vier Tracks der demnächst erscheinenden Produktion "No Line On The Horizon" in den Filesharing-Netzen heruntergeladen werden. Die Qualität ist zwar nicht sonderlich gut, für Fans, die sich vorab einen Eindruck verschaffen wollen, aber wohl ausreichend.
Die Schwachstelle ist ausgerechnet Bono, der Sänger der Band. Dieser hörte sich die noch unveröffentlichten Songs in seiner Villa in Südfrankreich mit hoher Lautstärke an. Ein Passant erkannte die Stimme Bonos, merkte, dass es sich um neue Titel handeln musste, und nahm sie über ein Mikrofon auf.

Digitizing Rare Vinyl
While the RIAA is busy changing its image to a snake eating its own tail, one man is busy digitizing out-of-print 78s. 'There's a whole world of music that you don't hear anymore, and it's on 78 RPM records,' he stated to Wired. Right now, you can find about 4,000 MP3s on his site, with no digital noise reduction implemented yet

The Classic Rock Magazine Is Switching to a Smaller, Rack-Friendly Size
Some packages like the curvaceous old Coke bottle become so iconic that they are recognizable at 30 paces. So it is with Rolling Stone, whose large format has stood out on magazine racks for more than three decades. It won’t for much longer, however. With the Oct. 30 issue, which will go on sale Oct. 17, Rolling Stone, published by Wenner Media, will adopt the standard size used by all but a few magazines.

Isaac Hayes Dies At 65
Isaac Hayes has died. Isaac Hayes, musician and voice of “Chef” on Southpark died early Sunday morning. Both Bernie Mac & Isaac Hayes have died within the same weekend, makes some wonder is there a “Soul Men” curse?
Isaac Hayes’ wife, Adjowa Hayes, found him on the floor near a treadmill in their home and called for help. A Shelby County sheriff’s deputy responded the call.
Steve Shular, a spokesman for the sheriff’s office, said authorities received a 911 call after Hayes’ wife and young son and his wife’s cousin returned home from the grocery store and found him collapsed in a downstairs bedroom. A sheriff’s deputy administered CPR until paramedics arrived.

Loveparade 2008 DJ-Sets
Die Website ist ziemlich ätzend, wegen Flash-Layer-Ads und wenn man auf ein Set klickt, landet man auf einer separaten Künstlerseite, wo man sich das Set nochmal raussuchen muss. Aber in diesem Fall mach ich da eben eine Ausnahme, weil: Da gibt’s dreihundertfuffzich DJ-Sets von der Loveparade, inklusive Underworld, Richie Hawtin, Westbam, Paul van Dyk, DJ Hell, Moby, Carl Craig und noch viele mehr.

Holy Grail of rock 'n roll found — Jimi Hendrix's first burnt guitar
Long back story short: Hendrix set his 1965 Fender Stratocaster ablaze during a 1967 concert at the Finsbury Astoria in London. It was discovered last year stored in the home of a friend, former press agent Tony Garland.
Hendrix squirted lighter fluid on his ax before torching it.
The charred guitar is expected to bring at least $1 million when it goes on the block as part of a rock memorabilia auction conducted by the Fame Bureau at the Idea Generation Gallery in London on September 4, 2008.
