- Todestag Kurt Cobain - Smells like Verschwörungstheorie

Some of the most controversial album covers
It's amazing how times change. What would be considered absolutely unacceptable 40 years ago is the norm now. Sometimes I wonder what people will find completely acceptable 40 years from now. Yikes! In any case, just for fun, here are 30 or so album covers that were either banned, changed to appease an overly prudish

Actual Album Cover Parodies
Some albums are not just iconic, but their cover artwork is as well. Plenty of groups have released album covers with homages to more famous album covers. Sources for parody covers tend to be parody albums based on a performer (like Weird Al spoofing Nirvana), tribute albums, and sometimes the rip off is unintentional (designers with a limited design vocabulary). In some cases like the Clash's "London Calling", the copy becomes copied over time to the point where I'm sure some people aren't even aware of the original anymore.

The Woodstock Death Count
This might be a tad morbid, but that’s the way it goes sometimes…
A friend recently sent me an email containing a link to a news story about the death of a 1960s musician. Well, he was probably a musician later in life as well, but was most famous during the ‘60s.

Streaming concerts, 10 albums of unreleased music for $77 Prince web subscribers...
Now Prince—the first marquee musician to flirt with the Web—wants to go on another virtual date. While he is partnering with Target to sell a new three-CD set for the recession-proof price of $11.98, Prince will also offer subscriptions to his new site, Lotusflow3r.com, for a not-so-recession-proof $77 per year.
Ultimately, the site, which is set to debut before the Target street date, will have to thrive apart from those first three albums. Clay says future plans for Lotus flow3r.com include a hybrid documentary-music video. But the deal-sealer, he concedes, is the potential for streaming live, VIP-only concerts from Prince’s Los Angeles mansion. “There could be a live chat going on with members watching a concert, and Prince could actually play requests,” Clay says. He also claims a colleague has organized 10 albums of old Prince music never released in any form.

Tosca - My First
'No Hassle' is the new album by Viennese soundscape masters Tosca. Forefathers of the nu-Balearic/cosmic scene of artists such as Studio, Quiet Village, A Mountain Of One and Windsurf; Richard Dorfmeister and Rupert Huber have produced their most magical and mesmerizing album yet. A luxurious tapestry of analogue and digital sounds, submerged samples and live instruments; 'No Hassle' evolves and expands into an hour-long ambient symphony. The title reflects not only the duo's laid back approach to making music but their whole philosophy of life.
Multi-instrumentalists Richard Dorfmeister and Rupert Huber have been friends since their Vienna schooldays, when they founded their first experimental band, Dehli 9. Richard later became half of the globally acclaimed DJ-producer duo Kruder and Dorfmeister, while Rupert worked in piano composition, sound-art installation and acoustic networks. The duo rediscovered their musical chemistry again with their Tosca debut, the 1994 12" 'Chocolate Elvis'; a string of highly praised albums and remix collections followed.
