Mick Jagger talks downloading and piracy on 40th anniversary of "Exile on Main Street"
This BBC News interview with [Sir] Mick Jagger on the 40th anniversary of the Rolling Stones' Exile on Main Street contains a few really choice grafs about the myth that the internet has robbed artists of their livelihoods. He seems pretty chill about the perceived threats of downloading, and explains that for a long time, the record labels did a fine job of robbing artists.

Public Image Ltd. Returns For A Thrilling Live Concert
After a nearly 20-year hiatus, the highly revered and often imitated post-punk group Public Image Ltd. has re-formed and launched a new U.S. tour. The band made a stop in Washington, D.C., for a full concert, recorded live at the 9:30 Club.
Public Image Ltd. was frequently overlooked when it originally formed and released a string of records in the 1980s and early '90s, or maybe it was looked at for the wrong reasons.

The 50 Greatest Hip-Hop Samples Of All Time
These days, everyone loves hip-hop. But how much does the average fan really know about the building blocks that formed the foundation of the genre's entire sound? That's right, before it was all-808-everything, hip-hop used a secret (and sometimes not-so-secret) selection of classic soul, funk rock, and jazz records from the ’60s and ’70s to create their sound. From tiny, obscure snippets to instantly-recognizable loops, the sample-based producers of the late ’80s and early ’90s uncovered some truly classic musical gems that are still sought after and used today.

Bootsy Collins talks about acid tripping with James Brown and dosing his brother
In this YouTube clip spotted by an eagle-eyed Boing Boing reader in an earlier post about Bootsy Collins' soon-to-be-launched Funk University, the legendary bass god talks about his first time taking LSD—which happened to be while he was hanging out and having deep chats with James Brown. Bootsy also admits to having dosed his brother "Catfish," as a prank, while they were all touring with J.B.: "Catfish," the story goes, was always mooching food off of others on the tour bus, so Bootsy and his friends (on one occasion or more) stuck LSD in it before offering it to him. Somehow, a tale that would otherwise seem cruel is funny and charming when delivered by Bootsy, whom I adore.

Ahh… It’s Bootsy's University Baby!
On July 1 classes will commence at the Funk University, the online bass guitar school created and curated by Bootsy Collins - you may have heard of him. If not, pull out a random James Brown, Parliament or Funkadelic record and take a refresher course. Then sign up for the bass courses at TheFunkUniversity.com. "The best day of my life was when I graduated from P.U.," said Collins, in a statement. "The next best day of my life will be to see students graduate from F.U." As for the motivation of launching The Funk University at this point in his career, Collins remarks, "Funk don't funk around for nobody, so get funked up while you can."

The Bay City Rollers are back! But why?
In a 1973 interview, Leo Sayer told the NME that he was a blues singer. He may have imagined himself, three decades later, venerated as Sussex's own BB King. Instead, this summer he'll be sharing a stage with David Essex, the Osmonds and the Bay City Rollers in the Once in a Lifetime 2010 tour, kicking off in Manchester next month, and ending in Cardiff in July. This is an astonishing teen dream line-up – you only need add David Cassidy (and subtract little Leo) and you account for pretty much all the sales of Blu-Tack in the mid seventies.

Pink Floyd reunion thwarted by David Gilmour, claims Roger Waters
Bassist claims that Gilmour is 'not interested' in touring, leaving him to celebrate The Wall's 30th anniversary all by himself.
"David is completely uninterested," Waters told the Associated Press. "After [Pink Floyd's reunion at] Live 8, I could have probably gone for doing some more stuff, but he's not interested." Instead, Waters has been working "on and off" for the last year with Ian Hall, an English playwright best known for the screenplay (and, later, libretto) for Billy Elliot. "Lee's become a close friend of mine, and I'm touching wood but we think we've finally found a director [who] we want to work with, so that's another project that's in the pipeline. We're on the fourth or fifth version of the book."

Photos From Malcolm McLaren's Funeral Fit For A King...
This is the kind of funeral every goth and punk dreams of when they cuddle into their totally ironic Disney Princess sheets at night. British punk legend Malcolm McClaren’s funeral procession went through London today and it was an extravagant spectacle. You wouldn’t expect anything less.

Kruder & Dorfmeister: Und montags wieder reuig...
Kruder & Dorfmeister veröffentlichen mit "Sixteen F**king Years of G-Stone Recordings" eine superbe Werkschau ihres Labels.
