Südkorea will gegen versteckte und unmerkliche Aufnahmen durch Kamerahandys vorgehen.
Die Handyhersteller müssen sicherstellen, dass beim Auslösen der Kamera ein deutlich hörbares Geräusch von mindestens 65 Dezibel zu hören ist, so das Ministerium für Telekommunikation. Das Geräusch soll zudem nicht abschaltbar sein, auch nicht durch den Wechsel in den Lautlos-Modus.

Microsoft bringt Sprachsteuerung für PDAs und Smartphones
Microsoft gab am heutigen Montag ein Software-Addon zur Sprachsteuerung für sein Pocket-PC-Betriebssystem in den Versionen für PDAs und Smartphones frei. Eine sprecherunabhängige Spracheingabe steuert bei Voice Command beispielsweise die Termin- und Adressverwaltung, Telefonfunktionen wie Nummernwahl aus dem Adressbuch heraus sowie eventuell vorhandene Medienplayer.

Pocket PC mit VGA-Auflösung
Nach bislang offiziell unbestätigten Branchen-Informationen soll Toshibas kommendes PDA-Top-Modell e805 entgegen ursprünglicher Aussagen als erster Pocket PC einen Transflektiv-Bildschirm mit einer Auflösung von 480 × 640 Punkten bei 16 Bit Farbtiefe haben.

Wear your cell phone on your wrist
After seven decades, reality is catching up to Dick Tracy's wristwatch phone -- Japan's cell phone giant NTT DoCoMo will soon start selling a mobile phone that's worn around the wrist and snaps off to become a regular handset.
"We are targeting young businessmen in their 20s and 30s as the device looks a bit rugged," DoCoMo spokesman Takuya Kono said.

Standing on a sidewalk across from the Hilton hotel in mid-town Manhattan 30 years ago today, Martin Cooper did something never done before.
To the bewilderment of passers-by, the Motorola project manager held a 2- pound box of wires and circuits to his ear and started talking into it -- becoming the first person to place a public call on a handheld cellular telephone.

Debut of the cell phone viruses.. hits Siemens 35 and 45
The wireless e-mail, among the 1 billion sent each day on the continent, can freeze or completely disable two cell phones made by German handset maker Siemens, spokesman Jacob Rice said here on Tuesday.
The e-mails contain a single word, taken from the phone's language menu, surrounded by quote marks and preceded by an asterisk, such as "*English" or "*Deutsch," Siemens said.
Opening the short-text message on a Siemens 35 series cell completely disables it, Rice said. Siemens 45 series phones are less affected and can be resuscitated after about two minutes of work, Rice said.

Sandisk, Spezialist für Speichermedien, stellt auf der CeBIT neue CF-Karten mit 2 und 4 Gigabyte vor. Dabei sind beide Neuankömmlinge der CF-Familie im dünnen CF-I-Format ausgeführt. Die schon jetzt erhältliche 1-GByte-Karte wird es zudem in der Ultra-Version mit einer schnelleren Schnittstelle geben. Die 2- und 4-GB-Variante soll ab Herbst zu einem Preis von 500 beziehungsweise 1000 US-Dollar verfügbar sein.

Samsung: GPRS Watch Phone kommt im 4. Quartal 2003
Auf der CeBIT zeigt Samsung ein GPRS-Telefon in einer Armbanduhr im "Dick Tracy"-Stil. Das GPRS Class 10 Phone besitzt einen Lithium-Ionen-Akku mit 400 mAh und bietet eineinhalb Stunden ununterbrochene Sprechzeit und 80 Stunden Stand-by-Zeit. Der Akku lädt sich durch Drehung des Handgelenks auf.

Nachdem Opera bereits im Juni 2002 eine Smartphone-Version des Opera-Browsers angekündigt hat, ist nun eine Fassung für das kürzlich in Deutschland erschienene Symbian-Smartphone von Sony Ericsson P800 erhältlich. Damit sollen sich auch normale Webseiten gut auf dem kleinen Display eines mobilen Geräts betrachten lassen.
