Vanilla Coke makes debut in Europe
Coca-Cola is trying Vanilla Coke in Europe, starting in Sweden. The first cans of the product rolled off a production line at a Stockholm plant Wednesday.
Coke spokesman Jonathan Chandler said the company also plans to launch Vanilla Coke in France, Germany and Britain within 12 months.

Wells's fantasy, "The War of the Worlds," led thousands to believe that an interplanetary conflict had started with invading Martians spreading wide death and destruction in New Jersey and New York.

Tackling 'witch' murders in Tanzania
Communities in northern Tanzania along the shores of Lake Victoria are stepping up their efforts to eradicate the murder of old people, mainly women, who have been accused of witchcraft. The women often become targets of attacks when traditional healers identify them as the cause of an illness or other misfortune.

Magic meets science at witches' school
Today's witchcraft, teachers at the school on Klagenfurt, Austria, say, is just mainstream science applied in a different way.
"A witch is someone who looks holistically on life, who does life-counselling things. A witch serves to help humans," said Sonja Kulmitzer, 28, who runs the school with Starchel.

Millionaire mystery writer Patricia Cornwell says she has unmasked Jack the Ripper -- and he was actually a respected British artist. In her quest to prove her theory, Ms. Cornwell has hired art and forensics experts and bought 30 paintings by impressionist artist.
"I do believe 100 per cent that the artist Walter Sickert was Jack the Ripper," she said in a recent interview. "Sickert led a horrifying double life, painting by day and killing by night. The case will soon be closed."

EU sues Austria for killing protected birds
The European Commission is taking Austria to court for allowing hunters to shoot too many protected wild birds. An investigation has found Austria grants too many exceptions to a ban on shooting Buzzards, Marsh Harriers, and Goshawks.

Turn to Pravda for the real news
A quick glance at the headlines on Online Pravda (english.pravda.ru) suggests that the new Russia is every bit as paranoid as the old Soviet Union. One headline reads "What if the USA Bombs Russia?" (The Russians apparently don't realize that we have to bomb Iraq, Afghanistan, North Korea, Indonesia and possibly suburban Washington, D.C., before we can turn our attentions to them.) Another attempts to answer the question that I didn't realize anyone had asked: "How to Protect Russia From Western Capital?"
