Lottery draws same number in a row
The Massachusetts Lottery pulled off a long shot of its own by drawing the same winning numbers two nights in a row for its daily Numbers Game: 7-4-5-3.
While unusual, drawing the same number two days in a row is not unheard of.
The same number was drawn August 22 and 23 in 1999, said Lottery spokeswoman Shannon Cadres.

At $35,000, Big Truffle Is Nothing to Trifle With
L.A. restaurateur pays a record price for one very large specimen of the exotic white fungus. Joe Pytka, a 64-year-old director of television commercials, paid $35,000 Sunday for a mushroom.
Well, OK, it wasn't the kind of mushroom you'd buy in your local supermarket. It was an enormous, 2.2-pound white truffle, the rare and exotically perfumed tuber magnatum Pico hunted by specially trained dogs in the Piedmont region of northwest Italy and prized by gourmets throughout the world.

Butlers open up over Burrell's revelations
An butler is meant to be the soul of discretion, so the revelations of Paul Burrell, former butler to Princess Diana, have shocked other members of this tight-lipped profession.
"We are all of the opinion that what Burrell is doing is terribly wrong. It is sowing the seeds of doubt in people's minds all over the world about what the butler will do," butler trainer Robert Watson told Reuters.

Swiss teens hooked on “alcopops”
Cheap, sugary and potent – Swiss health experts are ringing alarm bells about the popularity of “alcopops” among teenage drinkers. Switzerland, like many western countries, appears to have an unquenchable thirst for so-called designer drinks. HUMMER Flips
was at Gorman this weekend for the Hummerclub event. We got word that an H1 had flipped. Sure enough...it had! NOT a pretty sight! Just prior to the H1 running up the hill....an H2 went up the hill twice with no problems at all. From what I heard, the H1 started slipping on the front wheels and began to turn sideways....before you knew it....it was too sideways and flipped over. NOBODY WAS HURT!...but it went over hard!

JAPANS Toilet Day
brings loos out of the closet
One of the fledgling association's first moves was to have Nov. 10 declared Japan's semiofficial "Toilet Day." Why Nov. 10? Because in Japanese, the numbers 11 and 10 can be read as ii toire, meaning "nice toilet."

Der gescheiterte Schriftsteller
Rudolf Augstein
