Internet error puts Starwood in no-win situation
A month ago, Starwood's Web site recently showed $85 rates — instead of $850 — for over-the-water bungalows during high season at its luxurious new resort on the French Polynesian island of Bora Bora in the South Pacific.
Over two days, 136 people booked 2,631 rooms at the cheap rate and some made multiple reservations covering more than two months of vacation, Starwood says. If all the reservations were kept, the glitch would cost the resort $2 million.

Boy, 15, sails single-handed across Atlantic
A 15-year-old boy became the youngest person to sail the Atlantic single-handed yesterday after a 2,700-mile race with his father. Seb Clover received a hero's welcome at Antigua after 24 days at sea, despite losing to his father, Ian, 46.
They left Tenerife on 19 December, in 32ft Contessa class yachts. Mr Clover Snr, a sailing instructor, reached Antigua on Saturday afternoon in his yacht, Xixia. Seb delayed his arrival to enter English Harbour in daylight.

Tourist Surprised By Plane's Flight, Instructor Says Sight Not Uncommon Ted Smith, who is visiting the islands from Iowa, said he was thinking of the plane attacks on Sept. 11, 2001 when he swung his video camera and spotted the China Airlines 747 heading for the high rises of Waikiki.
"(I) looked up and it was just gliding in nice and pretty and I thought this is nice and then it didn't sound right," Smith said. "It was winding up, you know how they sound and when it got close enough I heard the roar of the engines."

Forget the Hayabusa, the Boost King, and even the V-8-powered Boss Hoss. Those are weak compared to the Dodge Tomahawk. Chrysler unveiled what might be the most radical of all motorcycles on Monday at the Detroit Auto Show.
DaimlerChrysler’s latest machine has an 8.3-liter V-10 engine yanked from a Dodge Viper mounted in a motorcycle chassis. The resulting machine, according to Chrysler, is capable of pumping out 500 horsepower and reaching 60 mph in about 2.5 seconds.

Norwegians launch beauty contest for cows
Farmers in Norway have launched a beauty pageant for cows. The winner will get the title "Miss Lista" - after the region where it is being held. Two judges will examine each cow and consider their body, legs and teats.
