Schwarzenegger Isnt Buying It

t's a small photo, the size of a thumbprint, all but lost amid the images of minivans and trucks and color headlines blaring "33-Hour Month-End Countdown!"

But for actor Arnold Schwarzenegger, the unauthorized use of his picture in a newspaper ad for an Ohio car dealership was serious enough to warrant a multimillion-dollar lawsuit.

The star of the "Terminator" movies and expected Republican gubernatorial candidate in 2006 is demanding that Fred Martin Motor Co. and its ad agency pay him more than $20 million for using his photo to hawk cars in an advertisement that ran in the Akron Beacon Journal.

Bhutan seeks to ban smoking

Armed with tradition and determination, Bhutan's Government says it wants to stamp out smoking across the country - possibly becoming the first nation on earth to entirely ban tobacco use.

The tradition in the remote Himalayan kingdom dates back to the 17th Century, some say even earlier.

In the 1640s, the founder of modern Bhutan, the warrior monk Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyal, enacted the first-ever ban on smoking in public when he outlawed the use of tobacco in government buildings.

Japanese go crazy over Taiwan's boxed lunches

As the only international representative invited to participate in an annual lunchbox show in Japan, Taiwan's classic pork chop and vegetable lunchbox proved its worth by becoming the event's biggest draw. A combination of pork chops, cabbage and rice gave Taiwan's often-absent and much-maligned presence on the international stage a flavorsome boost last week, when Taiwan Railway's classic pork chop and vegetable lunchbox (台灣懷舊排骨菜飯便當) became the first international participant to take part in an annual lunchbox show in Tokyo.

One hundred years ago

on Saturday, a young Italian inventor named Guglielmo Marconi stood on a sandy bluff on Cape Cod and sent a 54-word greeting from President Theodore Roosevelt across the ocean to England’s King Edward VII. A few hours later, the king responded, completing a dialogue that at the time seemed like pure magic. Marconi had launched the era of global wireless communications.

Credit card that tells you when you're drunk in charge

A credit card that tells you "Don't spend any more money, you're far too drunk" is being developed by Tesco as a service to those whose thrift with money is addled by alcohol. When breathed on, the card will change colour to show different levels of alcohol intake. Its use as a sobriety test in Tesco supermarkets may reduce the stores' takings at the checkout. But the chain is hoping that its scope as a do-it-yourself breathalyser will lead more people to apply for it.
