Spirograph

What is a Spirograph?

A Spirograph is a curve formed by rolling a circle inside or outside of another circle. The pen is placed at any point on the rolling circle. If the radius of fixed circle is R, the radius of moving circle is r, and the offset of the pen point in the moving circle is O, then the equation of the resulting curve is defined by:

x = (R+r)*cos(t) - (r+O)*cos(((R+r)/r)*t) y = (R+r)*sin(t) - (r+O)*sin(((R+r)/r)*t)

It's Easy Seein' Green

Of all the military gadgets on parade on television, there's one you can bring home without spooking the neighbors into thinking you've gone postal. Night-vision scopes, once available only at defense contractor prices, can be found nowadays at Wal-Mart for less than $100. The new consumer models are less powerful than the military versions, but they're more portable, too. They're also more stylish, so you won't look like that creep from Silence of the Lambs.

Why You Should Never Wear Red In A Casino

A lady in red is a welcome visitor to any casino -- though she may not like the reason why.

It seems the security cameras that casinos rely on for catching cheaters have the side-effect of seeing right through any clothing colored red.

KGB chief ordered 4m soldiers to keep watching the skies for UFOs

Yuri Andropov, the former Soviet leader and long-time head of the KGB, had an acute personal interest in UFOs and ordered a 13-year programme that required every soldier in the military to monitor sightings over Russian territory, according to new revelations.

Andropov shunned the splendour enjoyed by many Soviet leaders to live in a sparse flat throughout his 15 years as KGB chief and one year as Secretary-General of the Communist Party.

Woman arrested with grenades used to be a man

A Durban woman arrested this week for alleged possession of three stun grenades was once a man - and might even have been a high-ranking officer in the former South African Defence Force.

Robyn Godfrey, 43, was arrested by military police this week in what seemed an open-and-shut case of possession of military hardware. But things took a sensational turn when investigations revealed that Godfrey not only works as an escort in Durban, but - according to military records - could have been a mysterious Colonel Robin Ivan Godfrey.

N.Y. Boy Wins Rotten Sneaker Contest

A New York boy walked away with the top prize of a $500 savings bond on Tuesday in the annual rotten sneaker contest. But ten-year-old Jeffry Soto says he's not taking full credit for the sneakers, which stumped a judge in the "heels" category because they didn't have any heels left.

The fifth grader says his pit bull helped make his entry the winner.

Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia banned broadcast media from an appearance Wednesday where he will receive an award for supporting free speech.

The City Club usually tapes speakers for later broadcast on public television, but Scalia insisted on banning television and radio coverage, the club said. Scalia is being given the organization's Citadel of Free Speech Award.

"I might wish it were otherwise, but that was one of the criteria that he had for acceptance," said James Foster, the club's executive director.
